switching from a saved profile with FOTOS turned "off" to the default profile (which, by default, has FOTOS turned "on"), and for me, switching from any saved profile that also had FOTOS turned "on" to one where FOTOS was saved as "off" will "hang" the camera.

I don't think that this is the issue as my Q3 hangs as well (not always) even though in all my profiles photos is set to "on".

This is a bug and Leica is aware of that in the meantime. We sgould expect a fix. I do anyway not choose the default profile and therefore I can live with this bug.

If all the FOTOS settings are turned "on", from my observations, you would not see hang-ups as often.  I tried this and, like you, still got a very occasional hangup.  (I had mentioned that there could be other items in the profiles that cause hang-ups, possibly some difference if FOTOS "on" is set to "eco" instead of "performance" or vise versa ?).  The very frequent and very repeatable hanging up when going from a FOTOS "off" to a FOTOS "on" profile does suggest that this is a significant part of the "circle form Hell" FW bug. At least for now, with all my profiles set to FOTOS "off", I can switch between any of my saved profiles and have not yet (never say never) had a hang up.

if 4.0.1 fixes the profile hang, peeking in AF/playback of images (most people do not want peeking in AF and image playback0, and portrait rotation not working in playback this will be almost a perfect update. Amazes me how they improved so much and missed a few items most of us discovered in 5 min.  Not show stoppers but still.

Makes sense.  I'll just stays away from the default profile

I believe the focus peaking is the same as in SL3. I have not heard many complaints from SL3 owners. Nonetheless, I would prefer to have peaking only in the magnified view.

The update seems good, but I don't understand the logic of the autofocus system. It seems I can have tracking of objects OR tracking of people, but not both. There is no automatic transition from one AF method to the other. Is that correct? If I choose person tracking and then make some photos with no person in the frame, the autofocus reverts to a center box with no tracking of anything. When people no longer appear in the frame, the AF should revert to tracking of objects rather than just a center box with no tracking.

Yes, this is what some people like Smogg have been talking about earlier in the thread.  It's a weird omission for sure.

I upgraded to v4.0.0 of the firmware and now I cannot pair the camera to Leica FOTOS on my phone. The failure message says 'Make sure camera is turned on and connectivity is set to "Performance mode" or "Eco mode" in the Leica FOTOS menu in your camera.' Only the Connectivity option is greyed out - not available to select. Has anyone else seen this, and are there any suggestions for rectifying this?

Thanks,

Ian.

Ian, several people on this thread had had the same issue, including me.  I went into the WiFi settings and deleted the Leica Q3.  Next, I deleted the Fotos app and reinstalled it.  After that, I just turned the camera on and went through the start-up process with the Fotos app.

Switching profiles requires at least  four button presses! Then you need to adjust the exposure compensation, since you've memorized a neutral value in the profile, which will replace the current one when you switch profiles. So many unnecessary steps, wasting precious time. All of this can be easily avoided, which is exactly what other manufacturers do by implementing a simple tracking strategy: if there's a person near the focus square, recognize and follow them; if there's no person, lock onto the subject and stick to it.

Of course, that is how it should work. When no person is in the frame, the tracking should revert from person to object, and continue in tracking mode. It should be that simple and intuitive. Having to change AF modes depending on whether people are in the frame is a silly waste of time.

One has to say that you would think the least that Leica can do for a £5500 camera is release a totally updated manual in addition to the the one for the older firmware. I have the recently Q3M which basically has most of the v.4 additions already in the manual but obviously misses any tracking and colour info. Anyway this is nothing new for Leica and any complaints needed to be made directly to them   software-support@leica-camera.com

You can order a free printed manual from Leica:

https://leica-camera.com/en-US/order-instructions#no-back

if it updated, time will tell.
