jaapv Posted Saturday at 08:18 PM Share #1 Posted Saturday at 08:18 PM Advertisement (gone after registration) Well that was it.. The CL which had already been degraded to my #5 camera used mainly as an extender for the 70-200 , developed a lens communication error. As Leica deemed a repair not economically feasible ( it is pretty beat up) and offered only a refurb @ 2100 Euro I decided to keep it for manual lenses only 😟 My personal answer to the M-EV1., I guess. Now I have to dig up the AF lenses to sell…will take a bit of time.

Or use them on your SL2S body in APS-C mode. Not entirely redundant! Have you tried cleaning the suspect contacts with a recommended electrical contact fluid? jaapv Posted Saturday at 08:26 PM Author Share #3 Posted Saturday at 08:26 PM Yes. I have a dust-covered TL as well. Actually quite nice with the 18.
jaapv Posted Saturday at 08:31 PM Author Share #4 Posted Saturday at 08:31 PM Of course I went through the contact-cleaning and lens-body switching routine. It was clearly a camera fault. Anyway, it does not pay to use the 55-135 on a ff body as I have the superb 70-200 Sigma. That lens has only been used twice since I got it as anew replacement from Leica.

jaapv Posted yesterday at 01:20 AM Author Share #8 Posted yesterday at 01:20 AM Especially as it will not remain repairable for very long any more.
GFW2-SCUSA Posted yesterday at 01:40 AM Share #9 Posted yesterday at 01:40 AM I think this is sad news. As I have said before, I think Leica's fropping the CL was a mistake. They don't seem to agree with me.
Photar Posted yesterday at 03:43 AM Share #10 Posted yesterday at 03:43 AM (edited) Mine is still going strong. Never used the AF functionality, though. Was thinking about buying a backup body but 2nd hand prices are too high for my taste (about twice the price of a new Nikon Z50II). In terms of percentage, an M11 loses more value than a CL. LocalHero1953 Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM Share #13 Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM We don't hear about many CLs simply failing. And it sounds like @jaapv's has had a rough life. I would not worry too much about holding onto a working one other than how long batteries would remain available.
jaapv Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM Author Share #14 Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM The batteries are a common type: BLC 12. There are more cameras using them and there are many third party ones available. Yes, mine has been heavily used, often with very heavy lenses in rough conditions. They are not built like the SL series.

Price, build and materials tell you that, IQ is imho well up to and above the new price range, used prices tell you how good a camera it really is..😎🍻
jaapv Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Author Share #16 Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM It was nothing negative. In fact it held up far better than I expected. But as it is close to end of service life it is a relevant point for the attraction as purchase.
tom0511 Posted yesterday at 06:44 PM Share #17 Posted yesterday at 06:44 PM just disappointing for CL users how Leica treats us. First the S , the the CL, I wonder how we should build up trust to put further money into a Leica system (except the M). I am still a Leica fan but that's not how you should treat your custimomers. Why would they offer you a repair or a refurbished cl for a fair price tag?

My SL2 / Panasonic 85/1.8 had a lens communication error - no other lenses effected, the lens was replaced under warranty and the problem appears to be resolved, I'm presuming that you tried other lenses on the CL and they produced the same result? dkCambridgeshire Posted yesterday at 09:22 PM Share #20 Posted yesterday at 09:22 PM jaapv, Have you considered approaching David Slater to enquire if he could service / repair your CL? https://camera-focus.co.uk His repair costa are usually reasonable. He has stocks of spare parts for most Leica digital compacts. Might also be worth considering IR or full spectrum conversion? BW, dunk
