As a way of allowing flowering plants to propagate to provide food for bees and other pollinators, people in my community are encouraged to not mow lawns for the month of May. These dandelions are getting pretty high and we're only half-way through the month.

I'm doing it in our private backyard, but the fronts of our neighbours houses are all manicured due to a somewhat older, conservative community. Even people hedging during bird nesting, which is annoying. Anyway, I caved and mowed the from lawn, but out back it's a wild oasis.

In my village, the grass verges are left unmown since last year to encourage the grasses and flowers. I prefer it to mown verges.

There are people in our neighbourhood who also don't much like it but it doesn't last that long. Our house no longer has any grass to mow. It's all perennial gardens front and back. I love it.

That's my kind of village.
