spylaw4 Posted February 4, 2008 Share #23 Posted February 4, 2008 Chandos @ 1pm sounds fine to me - weather permitting (i.e. not pi**ing down). A thought tho' - the Chinese eating places will probably be well crowded - we may have to queue for dim sum.

bill Posted February 7, 2008 Author Share #28 Posted February 7, 2008 Just to confirm, I plan to be in the area earlier rather than later. I've found that the best shots are to be had in "Chinatown" itself, not around Trafalgar Square. If you are up to it, one good technique is to find the Lion Dancers "blessing" each business. They go from one to the next and are greeted with a bowl of rotten cabbage as an "offering". This they throw in the air as they pretend to "eat" it. If you work out their direction of travel, you can get some good closeups by positioning yourself near the door. Be careful though - all that rotten cabbage can be slippery underfoot! gravastar Posted February 9, 2008 Share #36 Posted February 9, 2008 Meet up at one o'clock in the Chandos Opera bar sounds fine for me. Weather forecast is good too. I'll probably try to arrive in time for the start of festivities at 11 o'clock and have a quick look around beforehand. Bob.
farnz Posted February 9, 2008 Share #37 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks for the link, Robert, it looks like you'll only be able to approach Chinatown on foot from the north (Shaftesbury Ave). All access from the south side will be blocked. Pete.

farnz Posted February 9, 2008 Share #40 Posted February 9, 2008 Since many of us won't know what the rest of us look like, I plan to be in the Ocean Bar at about 1 o'clock (crowds permitting) sporting a black baseball cap with "Leitz" in red.
