helged Posted February 16, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone having info regarding whether/when Panasonic S1ii/S1Rii bodies will hit the shelves? Personally, I liked (and still use) the S1R.
Advertisement Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Hi helged, Take a look here Panasonic S1 II and S1 IIE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tom.w.bn Posted February 17, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2024 I think the best sources are the camera rumour websites, you will find a handful via google search. Sometimes they have quite early and accurate information about new cameras. Nothing specific about new Panasonic cameras. I hope they learned from the S1/S1R that chunky bodies don't sell and make everything S5 size or smaller. A Pana GX80 full frame would be great. That body format is only offered by Sony right now.
Archiver Posted February 18, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2024 I suspect Panasonic will back away from the larger S1 body type and make something smaller, perhaps a touch bigger than the S5 but not as much as the S1. There are very vague rumours of a S1 X floating around, but nothing definite. It's a shame because Panasonic could really do with a proper pro level mirrorless body, I think they just overengineered the S1. After all, the S1 is 1kg and the SL2S is 800g! @tom.w.bn A full frame GX85 would be amazing! The GX85 is the camera I carry the most at the moment due to the size, weight and shape. Second most carried camera is the G9. The S5 feels okay, but the grip of the G9 has spoiled me for anything less, and if I'm going to carry a mirrorless with EVF hump, it might as well feel good in the hand. 2
jaapv Posted April 3, 2024 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2024 S5ii is a real improvement and has moved the camera into the top ranks of hybrid professional cameras. TIPA award : best expert camera 2023.
helged Posted April 10, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted April 10, 2024 New FW update for S5ii just around the corner, with (possible) 'animal eye detect': https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4755369#forum-post-67640263.
jaapv Posted April 10, 2024 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2024 Animal eye detect. Now that would be a gamechanger for me👍🏼

Regarding AF: "The improved real-time auto-focus system enhances the highly accurate Phase Hybrid auto focus of the S5II and S5IIX, efficiently recognizing people amongst multiple subjects. It also features an animal eye recognition function, to focus on and follow animal eyes, as well as a car and motorcycle recognition function, which is ideally suited for shooting motorsports." This FW update could also indicate where cAF of SL3 will be heading. Edited April 10, 2024 by helged
Kana Posted September 7, 2024 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2024 I love my chunk 1Kg S1 though, i just hope they use the same BG and battery. as long as they keep the same size (and circular viewfinder) im happy, oh and a top LCD would be nice and dual CFexpress 4.0
jaapv Posted September 12, 2024 Share #10 Posted September 12, 2024 They did keep the battery grip and battery on the S5ii. So a good chance they will on the S1ii as well
AdjusterBrett Posted October 24, 2024 Share #11 Posted October 24, 2024 It seems the S1ii is well off in the future. Wishlist: 9mp EVF with MORE magnification and 120mhz. Keep the CFexpress. Move to a 21700 based battery (vs. 18650) and blow everyone out of the water. AF at or better than latest. Downplay video, up-play photo (leave it to the "H"). 8K Mode. Last - If it's even possible - improved low light, let me throw out my Godox collection (LOL).

Photoworks Posted January 28 Share #13 Posted January 28 Looks like next month will be the 60MP camera! I wonder what the collaboration with Capture One is?!? Focus Stacking without a plugin?

Focus Stacking without a plugin? Will be interesting to see! SL3 has been out for almost a year now; would think that Panasonic has used the time to add some goodies to the S1RII, within the constraints of the sensor, processor, battery, etc.
Archiver Posted February 4 Share #15 Posted February 4 Funnily, I've just got a near-mint S1 with v-log upgrade for less than $1400 AUD, and I'm really enjoying it. Yes, the body is 1kg but the grip is far better than the S5, I prefer a tilting screen for most photo and video tasks, and the huge EVF is a boon for manual focus. My favourite lenses on this camera so far are the Zeiss Distagon 35 ZM and Summicron 50 v5, but some more small and lightweight AF primes will be coming, too. Having said this, I would still prefer a slightly scaled down version of the S1, imagine a Panasonic version of the SL3-S, easier to carry and hold while still having the EVF, top LCD display, stacked mode and drive dials, the big S1 batteries and tilting screen. One can only hope. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my S1.

The reason I left the Panasonic system is I need tether support for professional work. I would probably go back if they added it.

I guess that it will have focus bracketing and maybe multishot. And a ton of useless options 😂.

Red menu text/symbols for astrophotography is quite useful. Typically something that the Lumix bodies have. Not a game changer, but a goodie.
