Doesn’t it feel wrong that Leica doesn’t recognise as an important landmark London in its anniversary year with an event and a Special edition camera. It’s recently done New York in honour of its M user heritage , but I am compelled to write this before this year’s events slips away. We have great users of M cameras in the UK ,Matt Stuart who I have had the privilege of meeting and working with on a street photography courses ,Tom Stoddart who extensively covered the war in Sarajevo with M film bodies and Mike Chudley who does great street work with an M11P and now a film MP .The full list of cities for the 100 year is Dubai , Milan , New York , Shanghai and Tokyo, culminating in an anniversary week in Wetzlar. I have been an avid user of Leica cameras for the last 25 years and feel London should have a Leica 100 year anniversary event and camera . I hope Leica reads this and adds London to it’s anniversary year celebration .

Would you commit to buying one?

I’m going to say yes if they bring an event to London like they did in New York.

but an event would have been nice.

You are right but I’m standing up for London as it’s my capital city . If it’s punishment for Brexit then so be it .

I think you’re obviously forgetting the long heritage of street/press/war/reportage images taken on Ms in Dubai 😉

I wonder if this decision was made by both Wetzlar and the dealers in the cities. I can picture HQ calling up the dealer in a city and asking them if they're confident they can sell a hundred M11s in 3-4 months or not. Having a commemorative edition sit around a year after release isn't a good look. Though one figures with all the finance money in London that there would have been large enough market.

Maybe a review of history circa 100 yrs ago (post 1919) was a period Germany may not wish to reflect with the UK ….?

I think that is the least likely reason!

It’s probably more a financial reason the more I think about it , if Leica is going for the wealthiest cities then it chose wisely . Still I made my case and stand by it .

How about Auckland or Wellington?

Brian Brake will be spinning in his grave.

I know everyone wants a piece of the action , Leica has chosen its cities and if it’s not yours don’t blame me.😊

A lot of special editions are commissioned by importers. I would ask Leica UK to check their spam folder, maybe they missed that email thread. Or maybe they didn't feel like ordering 100 cameras and hosting a big event.
