I think today there is an announcement about the release of the M11-P Safari. I am currently shooting Q and SL and in the market for an M. So looking forward to the release of details.

New: Leica M11-P Safari

Leica Camera AG writes the next chapter in the success story of the coveted olive-green special edition

Wetzlar, 8th of May 2025 – Leica Camera AG presents the newest member of the M11 family, the Leica M11-P Safari. With this launch, the company continues its long tradition of the coveted Leica Safari Editions, which have stood out since the 70s thanks to their eye-catching olive-green colour scheme, as well as additional subtle design features which emphasise the special edition’s exclusive aesthetics.

The distinctive colour scheme imbues the Leica Safari’s design with its unmistakable character. Notably, the elaborately constructed camera top plate made of solid brass has been given a durable paint finish in matte olive green. The olive-green finish of the leatherette covering creates perfect colour coordination, while also ensuring exceptional grip.

The silver controls and dials on the camera top plate and front provide a stunning contrast, and the red Leica logo has also been deliberately omitted and replaced with a subtle silver screw. Further distinguishing features, such as the controls on the back of the camera being finished in stylish black and the engraved signature Leica script, as well as the “Leica Camera AG” and “Wetzlar Germany” lettering, round off the exceptional design of the Leica M11-P Safari.

The new special edition corresponds to the Leica M11-P with regards to performance and technical specifications, and also pulls off the same extraordinary technological feats as the base model: equipped with content credentials technology, the M11-P Safari can sign every image with tamper-proof metadata, such as the camera model and copyright information, as well as creation and editing dates, if desired. Its internal 256 GB memory means you can snap photos in DNG and JPG formats to your heart’s content.

The LCD panel, which is made of particularly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and features an anti-reflective coating, allows for full control regardless of visibility conditions. Extremely brilliant images that are rich in contrast and details are provided by the high-performance BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, which enables a choice of image resolutions from the options of 60, 36 or 18 megapixels. Thanks to seamless connectivity via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cable, the camera can be quickly and conveniently connected with the Leica FOTOS App. Bluetooth Low Energy allows photos to be transmitted in the background in a way that is both quick and energy efficient.

M-Cameras have been synonymous with precision craftsmanship, uncompromising quality and timeless understatement for over 70 years. The Leica M11-P Safari is the perfect choice for anyone who particularly values exclusivity, aesthetics and style. The special edition is supplied together with a black carrying strap by Leica, which is packaged in sustainable material. The high-quality boxes do not contain any plastic at all and are also produced in Germany.

The Leica M11-P Safari is now available worldwide in all Leica Stores, in the Leica Online Store and from authorised dealers. The recommended retail price is £8,100.00 / €9,250.00 incl. VAT.

Hm the back has black buttons, didn't expect that! I kind of prefer the silver one they did on the M10-P Safari.

Green battery confirmed! Do we actually already know what the deal is with extra batteries for these special editions, like the glossy black paint to?

I don't think I will be able to justify it myself given my current line-up of cameras, but wish anyone who gets one a lot of fun with them!

I read somewhere that the glossy black battery you get with the camera is likely to be unavailable separately. Not sure if that is the official line.

At least with this one you could put a silver battery in without it looking too odd.

Not sure as I’ve never pulled one apart, but the buttons, screen and joypad might be a single unit that is fitted into the body from inside out. If they are, I imagine making silver buttons just for at most probably 2000 units and likely less would be prohibitive.

It looks really good but don’t understand why all the images show a cognac strap but the scope of the delivery states “black”. The cognac strap looks really good.

I just placed my order. I am away at the moment so will have to wait a few weeks before I can get my hands on it. Ordered it with the silver Summilux 35.

Leica's first over $10,000 USD M camera. 🤑

Same price (£8,100) as M11-D in the UK.  That converts to $10,800 at current FX rates, but the dollar is weak at the moment.  Currency fluctuations aside, it looks reasonably competitive by Leica standards.  Shame you don't get the cognac leather strap included - some UK dealers already making that point clear on website ordering.

The M offshoots that I understand are the D series and the monochrome series. Both offer notably different actual uses than the core model.

This rebadged shit for higher prices is what makes my stomach turn about this brand. Not class, but this thing oozes "I am more interested in the look of my tool than in what I make with it."

In the early thirties Leica already made small series of “Luxus” cameras, gold coated and with snake and lizard skin. If you move forward in time you will find things like issues for special occasions ( like Olympic Games and more, favored importers, valued customers ( the Sultan of Brunei gave gold-plated R camera sets in Sandalwood boxes to his guests)  The M6 was notorious for its special editions. Erwin Puts lists 38 but there are more, etc. So it is more of a nearly century-old tradition rather than a foppish fad.
