All;

I just purchased a used Leica M10. The camera has the latest firmware from Leica. I have an akaralabs 6-bit encoder and a high-quality pen. I have 6-bit coded lenses before and haven't had any issues.

I just picked up a Voigtlander 35mm F2 Ultron II lens and am coding it as a Leica 35mm F2 Summicron M 11879, but the camera reads the coding as a 50mm F/1.4. I know that I coded it right and did it carefully as per the diagram.

I cleaned the lens mount/flange and re-did it three times. Do you think that something is wrong with the 6-bit coding reader in the camera? It is set to auto-detect.

Thanks, Brad

Hmm that code is nothing like any 50 1.4.  Perhaps it thinks there is no code and is using the last manual code that was set. On your lens detection menu can you select anything but Auto? On mine it only lets you select manual if it can't read a 6-bit code, so if you can select manual it could be "not reading."

What pen have you been using if i may ask? A mere sharpie like Zebra McKie won't be black enough in my experience. You may use it to mark the coding pits in the first place but you'd better use black paint or black ink to cover the marks for better recognition. The Markal Dura-Ink permanent marker works fine and so does the Edding 780 Creative marker. BTW the code i use on the Ultron 35/2 asph is 011110. Happy snaps 😊

I'm using the pens that the 6-bit encoder company had recommended. It is a Uniball Super Ink Marker, permanent, water-resistant marker. I am meeting a friend on Wednesday to try his Leica 35mm Summicron 6-bit lens. As long as I know that the 6-bit sensor is working reliably in the body, I will manually hard-code my CV lenses as a 11879 35mm F2 Summicromn. When the time comes that I buy a Leica 6-bit lens, I will know that it will work.

Thanks, Brad

Are you sure that you applied the code in exactly the right position? Is there no screw that interferes with the coding?   Remember that a 35 mm lens applies virtually no lens correction; the coding is only relevant to get the focal length into EXIF.

The coder has a small projection which snaps into a detect in the lens mount, so yes

I recently coded mine and had a few probs - including it defaulting to the 50 Lux, so i replaced the sharpie pen with a dap of black acrylic paint - worked a treat!  I think it needs very dark black.
