Cobrabird168 Posted March 14 Share #1 Posted March 14 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Need help. My Leica SL3 which has an M-lens mounted in it is not displaying the focal leng in the top display, the EVF and the viewfinder. it is greyed out and only shows “F - -“ (see image below). This was not an issue up until yesterday. The camera used to show which focal length I was using in the displays. i already tried removing and putting back the lens and the adapter thinking these were not mounted right but the issue remains. I also tried to reset the entire camera but it did not solve the problem. Looking forward to your advise and comments. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Hi Cobrabird168, Take a look here SL3 is not displaying focal length when using an M lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 15 Share #2 Posted March 15 Only a coded lens and the Leica adapter together will transmit lens information. If that is what you are using the dots on the lens mount or the window of the adapter are likely dirty or damaged. You can set the lens information in the camera menu. I have a Summilux 50 and the Leica M to L adapter. Lens info is already showing. whats the best way to clean the dots on the mounts? microfibre cloth ok? I was thinking a whole thread on which IPA to use and if lager is a good substitute or Belgian beers are better.
LD_50 Posted March 15 Share #7 Posted March 15 Advertisement (gone after registration) When you say focal length are you meaning aperture (f stop)? The focal length is never displayed. That said, with M lens mounted the camera will always guess the aperture. It doesn’t transmit aperture data from the lens to camera. You are setting it manually with the lens anyway so you really don’t need it on the display, given the inherent inaccuracy. It should though display the guess. Clean the contacts and try resetting the camera.
Photoworks Posted March 15 Share #8 Posted March 15 The SL3 does not display the lens, it will say 0mm on all M lenses. the icon of 35mm on top is the full frame usage. other cameras do display the lens, like SL2 Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted March 15 Share #9 Posted March 15 That is a strange omission. The SL2S does as you say ( top left) But then, I think that the SL3 top menu is less practical and more messy than the original one Definitely not an improvement Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted March 15 Share #12 Posted March 15 That does not explain that you said that the camera was displaying a value in the original post.

More importantly, SL3 does write the correct lens information into the EXIF data even if it displays 0mm.
