Has anybody heard anything of this lens? I am not a fan of 28mm...

Give them a little TIME, it's only been about 5 years since it was announced in the roadmap ... :) "Eile mit Weile"  (haste makes waste / Google Translation) as we say in Germany.

No nothing news. It's a shame, I think.

I'm not a 28mm fan either.  Was always more comfortable at 24.  Ended up buying the 21mm APO.  It is spectacular and has very little distortion.  I can easily crop to 24 and even use it in APS-C mode for ~32mm on the SL3.  Because it is so resolving, even the 32mm crop looks like it was taken with a much higher resolution camera.

Sigma has very good 24mm lenses also. Not on par with the Apo-Summicron lenses of course, but not bad.

I don`t know if Leica has second thoughts about 24mm. 24mm lenses did not sell for the M system, and I saw someone mentioning that the 1.4/24mm could become a future collectible as so few were sold. I don`t think any M 24mm are offered now, and I don`t know if the SL system is any different.

The curious thing about the history of APOs under 28mm is that both were on the roadmap about 5 years ago and the lesns calculation were even shown. Then something changed in the calculation of the 21 before release. So it could also be related to transferring the changes to the 24. But does it take that long? At least you have enough time to put some old M lenses back on. As I said: strange.

I think it will arrive right after the 350mm lens from the S roadmap. (Pic from dpreview).

I have the 24mm M Lux. and I have the 24mm Sigma's. I also own the SL 28mm, and it's a focal length that I do not really like. I am planning on the SL APO 21mm, but it will not have the bokeh of a 24mm. I do not buy into statements that 24mm is not a desired focal length, given that every other manufacturer makes a 24mm prime that is F/2.0 or faster. What I really want is an AF 24mm F1.4, but that's a pipe dream at this point...

Leica seems to be on a path of just re-engineering M-mount 28, 35, 50, 90mm lenses and rebadging that's about it. I sincerely hope that I am wrong, and that the previously announced 24mm APO SL is released soon.

I certainly prefer 24mm to 28 or 21mm, but I guess I am also in the minority. I think it is quite clear it is not happening though. If it is not available in even M, then it is unlikely to make it in SL. Additionally, there are a wide variety of Leica and non-Leica lenses that cover the focal length. There are several Panasonic and Sigma native primes, and of course several very good zooms. So while I would most like to see a 24mm APO Summicron, the wind seems to have shifted against it.

Stuart,  Your post is spot on.  Leica gave up on the 24mm focal length due to the lack of sale demand.  Based on what I have been told, an SL 24 is not forthcoming.  The SL 21 is superb along with the existing SL Apo lenses.  Like you, I would much rather have a SL 24, but as you wrote, the wind has shifted against the focal length.  r/ Mark

Is there really a Leica insider providing lens roadmap information?

The Summilux 24 is permanently attached to my M11M. In the absence of an Summicron SL 24, the Summicron SL 21 does a reasonable job. The 21 is perhaps the best 21 I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning.

I’ve toyed with the idea of the Panasonic S24, does anyone have any experience with it?.

With regards to Leica and 24mm, on the M, I think that frame lines are a limiting factor. A digital M would alleviate this issue. In the mirrorless world, EVERY other manufacturer makes prime lenses in the 24mm focal length - just sayin'

Yes, this is no doubt correct. Live view can compensate a little, though.

24mm is one of my favorite focal lengths, and the Summilux-M 24mm is one of my most-used lenses.

A couple of years ago, someone at a Leica store gave me the impression that the 24 APO might never be released and that Leica had other priorities.

I hope he was wrong — one can dream.

When I review my M camera images in Lightroom I find I have nearly as many taken with my 24mm 2.8 as any one of my 35, 50, 75, 90 mm set.  I believe that Leica designed a 24mm M lens because it matched the largest frame lines in the M8.   After the M8 all the M cameras had full frame 24mmx36mm sensors and the frame line progression had 28mm frame lines not 24mm.    Interestingly most mid range zooms on full frame digital cameras have 24mm as the widest view.    As you might expect I have a lot of pictures taken with the 24mm setting on my zoom lenses.  I note that Erwin Puts praised the 24 f2.8 M lens as exceptionally good.

Real new developments are coming from Cosina, Sigma and Panasonic. Leica is designing new lens barrels for old calculations (shorter focusing distances for M, Summilux 35mm, 50mm classic etc.). One can only hope that they are quietly working on real new lenses.
