Has anyone received their BF yet?  any comments? thoughts?

Thanks

Got mine in silver today! What a beauty, it feels so good in my hands. The camera is very easy to use. But I have to wait for my lenses which should come within the next weeks. Then I can show some photos here in the forum

Which lenses do you intend to use?

I love the minimalist design.  The camera looks like a precious Jewell to hold and admire - to look at.  Very Bauhaus/Dieter Rams.  Echos of what drew me to Leicas’s TL2 years ago.  Love that camera for a similar aesthetic.

I do love the silver, but will be getting the black.

I always felt conscious with the silver TL body and black lens in public standing out, and all silver is the T on steroids.  I prefer a monotone body and lens approach and the more stealth appearance.  Nothing to see here vs look at me.

Yeah, relative to Fuji, Panasonic, Sony, Nikon, Canon and Leica.

Honestly I love Sigma. I have their contemporary lenses and used the FP for about four years, but they have always been niche, ever since the Merrill's and the Quattros.

I highly doubt the BF is going to match the sales of a Nikon Z8, or Fuji X100 VI, leica Q3 43 or Sony A7. But I'm happy to be proved wrong.

The Zeiss ZX also looked amazing, but was over priced and people didn't like the similarity to a phone.

Currently traveling only with my Sigma DP-2 Merrill. Always shoot film when it's easy to assure its security; otherwise take the Blad 50 907x or the Sigma. I don't know if I get better images from any camera I've owned (including 3 Leica digitals). What's not to love? A pocket full of absurdly cheap batteries, read-write time that lets me take a short nap between shots, and an ISO that can soar as high as 400. But the images. Oh my!! With the exception of my Blad SWC 903, I don't own a camera that's as much fun or gives me as much satisfaction.

Seriously, newer isn't necessarily better.

The Lumix S 20-60 is really good also here's one on the fp at 20mm just a jpg out of the camera.

What's not to love? The image quality over 400 ISO.

The hard to read screen (hello Sigma!). I owned a couple of DP Merrills for a few years. Absolutely stunning image quality in the best of circumstances.

In doors, no good, dim light, no good. In bright light images are stunning but you can't see the screen. I took mine to Rome and everything I shot was pure guess work (focus and shutter/aperture settings).

If this is Sigma's T, then I'm waiting for its CL (and hope they keep the styling and finish).
I've fallen for the TL2 twice, but each time found my usage calls for an EVF, and sold it again.

I'm guilty of this too.. bought it for second time a couple of weeks ago... still fun so far (and I already had the EVF)😁.

Looking forward to hearing about the ergonomics: how balanced it feels in the hand (esp with heavier/longer lenses), security of grip, and whether those edges are a bit sharp!

Indoors yesterday in a dimly-lit museum. handheld; Topaz sharpened. It's not film, but the mechanics are close to it.

Mine arrived yesterday, have had little time with it so far, only went shooting for 45 minutes with it this morning to give it a whirl.

My initial thoughts:

-Battery life not great, after very little fiddling with the menus yesterday and the 45 min shooting, I went from a full charge down to roughly 55%.

-Ergonomics:  I have shot with 3 lenses on it so far the Sigma C series 35, 90 and Leica ASPH 50mm L.  The best feeling was the 90 as it is the lightest, and this camera  needs light lenses.  holding it with the sharp edges became a bit bothersome after very little shooting.  I will try with some L mount APO lenses but I can tell already they will be very cumbersome to shoot unless using two hands.   I placed two peak design anchors (see pic) on the mounting point to have it hang around my neck, I did find it hangs around the neck very awkwardly and most of the time I would hold it in the hand, and there another reason why a light lens is a must for this camera imo.  I have seen some use a PD base plate with two anchor points, may give that a try, but then the camera loses it coffee table IG appeal 😉

-Screen and Menu: so far are fine, Menu was very intuitive, screen on a cloudy day has been fine - I have yet to use it on a sunny day.

-AF:  Very pleasantly surprised, feel it much snappier than the Q343/SL3.  Dare I say almost Sony like.

-Customizability, again have not played much with it, but for walking around it's not a manual shooting camera (ie constantly adjust exposure) I feel it needs to be on auto something be it ISO or A priority.  Adjusting shutter speed/iso/aperture is not hard from the menus it's not a dedicated physical dial and therefore makes it cumbersome to me.  I found that while having the camera hang around my neck it would adjust settings on it's own which was a bit annoying but again easily corrected as the menu is quite intuitive to me.

-Color profiles, played around with a few, they seem ok, but I have not even downloaded my images yet...

More thoughts to come.

I always go through a new battery in a new camera quickly because I am playing with menus and the rear screen, and because a new battery needs a few cycles to get to maximum capacity. But it may be just an issue for such a camera that depends on the rear screen all the time.

You imply that you're trying to use it one handed? I'm not surprised that is uncomfortable with L-mount lenses!

Yes, one handed mostly.  with a light lens and even with the slightly heavier Sigma/Leica ASPH L lens it's seems fine.

can you take a few more pics of the body and lens please :)  would be good to see the 50mm on it ....

Something about the BF’s mode of operation dragged me in; mine will be here Wednesday. I’m planning on one of the revised Sigma 45/2.8s as an everyday lens, but have my 40/2 Summicron-C and a Nikkor 45/28P standing by on adapters until the Sigma becomes available stateside.

I generally don’t shoot in full sun, much preferring the shoulders of the day and overcast conditions. If I need full sun capability I’ll grab one of my Nikons.

I plan on mostly shooting in aperture priority using the lens aperture ring as the deity intended with the menu parked on exposure compensation. I know you always get EC on shutter half press, but I think I want the ability to use it without my finger on the shutter.  I’ll play around with that aspect.
