Hi,

Posting this thinking it might be of interest. Full picture just had color adjustments and basic sharpening. Also cropped a detail. Shot at f2,4 on a M11.

I haven’t any experience to compare to other leica lenses but I feel it’s pretty sharp. @1,4 looks are bit different. I’ll se if I can find a picture to post.

I just bought the black chrome asph. but the classic was my second choice, if I couldn't have found one. your photo makes me want it again :)

One more with the reissue. With the M11 + LR editing.

I really like a lot about this photo.

Her smile, the dress, the pose, in combination with the light and how the lens draws (and editing?). It has a feel from a different age.. like from the 90ies..

may I ask which aperture this was shot?

what ever, this proves more than everything, that photography creates beautiful memories, no matter which gear you use, unless you feel the picture. this one I feel, it has many layers that speak to me.

I think to myself that one day will say about this photo "that was really her".. it feels authentic, although I don't know anything about that person.

I don't know if the asph. can achieve the same effect.. maybe.. but different.. :)

Hi Leon. It was at f1.4.

I also own the ASPH summilux and would say colors on the reissue are a bit more special and more reminiscent of film. At 1.4 the reissue is not as sharp; bokeh is similar. I would go with the reissue if I only could pick one, but I'm a lucky photographer and will keep both.

Beautiful again.

Many years ago I used a Nikon 50mm 1.2 adapted on my Canon 5D (still use the lens on my analog Nikon)

The reissue has that feeling for me.. soft wide open, but very sharp stopped down.

I went with the Black Chrome Asph. because it was the only one that delivers a all in one solution for me with my current needs (it is so gorgeous in many ways)

but the reissue really speaks to my heart.. :)

I will definitely consider it as a second 50 one day, if I don't have to part with my Asph.

I'm on the fence for this lens, but I would love a lighter (black) version, should that ever come. I have had the Lux 50 BC before, but sold it because of its excessive weight.

SL3 Summilux M 1.4 50 Classic - I posted this image somewhere else and wrongly identified the lens as Apo Summicron SL 21. I was shooting two cameras and both SL 21 and 50 1.4 Classic. I thought it was sharp enough to be the Super Apo Summicron SL 21 even with its considerable cropping.

I'm too on the fence for this lens (11714) and the CF ASPH (11728), mainly because of the focus shift. I use M11P and focus with rangefinder 99% of the time. I also owned the ZM C Sonnar 50/1.5. Love its rendering but hate its wild focus shift.
Can someone share the real-world focusing experience with this “classic” lens on a M body? Especially within the distance range of 1~2m and f/1.4 to f/2.8?
