My guess is that it's a toe dip. They'll have done some focus grouping. See if this sells without incredible R&D cost (although it will have cost enough). If it meets expectations or better then there's scope for EVF2 with 9mp viewfinder etc. I do suspect it will pull in new customers. Just like the Q. And drive lens sales. Unlike the Q! Pretty much the same. The EVF is higher res on the plus side and of course more conveniently built in for form but you also lose the very nice ability to look down into it like you can with the Visoflex. It’s definitely a ‘test the water’ product. It has potential but it’s not a consideration for me in it’s current form.

carlosgavina Posted 19 hours ago Share #3802 Posted 19 hours ago How's the blackout or "lag" when shooting? (compared to lets say the Visoflex and a SL3-S).
jrichie Posted 19 hours ago Share #3803 Posted 19 hours ago I made a few comments here about if they did an amazing job on the design, I would be tempted. They didn't.

Still you can easily buy a a7c ii for around 1800€ new, and it's lighter, smaller, has ibis and excellent af the day you want it. All I'm saying is I expected a bit more effort from Leica to develop a good solution to focus manual lenses on a evf, while it seems they just put together a camera with what they already had and charged 8k for it. Have you tried one and found it lacking after a good month of experience?

BUT The superb EVF and the implementation of this IN AN M body makes it a delightful camera to hold and I'm sure its very useable. I'd rather they did this than us all beta testing something innovative but funky.... Don't dis it until you have tried it.... I’ll try to get my hands on it this weekend.

NigelG Posted 19 hours ago Share #3807 Posted 19 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m keen to try it but only as an addition to a “regular” M… Using a WATE, 21,24Lux, 75Lux and 90 cron would be easier…and with non-Leica lenses that aren’t perfectly calibrated I might not have to remember whether at close focus and wide open (even if within the usual RF range) I have to lean back or forward to get focus…although tbh my 35 Lux FLE and 50 Lux ASPH have never agreed at f1.4 at MFD despite being “within spec” 🙄
Wipeout Posted 19 hours ago Share #3808 Posted 19 hours ago I think this is brilliant camera from Leica. It's for photographers who like the Q, but don't want to be fixed to one lens. Who like the M, but struggle with the rangefinder experience. 3

Dazzajl Posted 18 hours ago Share #3812 Posted 18 hours ago As I’ve mulled this and read the thoughts of others this afternoon, I’ve realised I’m quite glad this isn’t the M lens EVF solution for me. If it was I’d just be sad because I can’t afford it anyway. ☺️

tappan Posted 15 hours ago Share #3814 Posted 15 hours ago I am jealous, I am envious. While the rest of us were sleeping and wondering (for months) if this new Leica M-EVF rumor was going to be realized, many in the Leica world already had the camera, had the answer to the secret. There was Alan and Phil, Benj and Taco. There was Three Men and an Elephant, Albert Einstein, sorry I mean MathPhotographer, there was Gaston and Jamie and Goughie, and Dave, and Leica Australia etc etc etc. I feel deflated, like the 2nd grader who was picked last for the class dodgeball team. Tonight I will sleep with my Leica gear close. I may even tuck them under my blanket. My M10-R, and M10-P, and M10-M have not asked me why they suddenly have been cast as inferior. I will hold them tight and explain to them that "they ARE worthy", "they are special". Then, I will consult my therapist 🙂

However, right now, I am loading an M6 & M7, with film and taking off into the city. Might drop by the Leica Store to see if they have an M EV1 to ogle, but I will maintain that my pics with the 'oldies' are just as good. 🤩 3

All this specification obsession is hysterical when the photos will not look any different from those taken on ‘obsolete’ technology. I might make my first visit to the new Leica Store Melbourne in the coming weeks to check out the M EV1 too. Enjoy, and do post your impressions.

I'm very happy with my M11-P, and if I need something other than a true R/F experience have an SL2, and an X2D. I was dead set on getting the M EV1, but am slightly less enthused now. The focus at anything other than max aperture means stopping down after focusing, and that just slows the whole process down. I occasionally use my M Summilux's on the SL2, and they work wonderfully, but again, I focus at max aperture, then stop down. Really, I need to physically try one.
jaapv Posted 9 hours ago Share #3820 Posted 9 hours ago 😇 <bless> If you have difficulties using a rangefinder to its full potential I can recommend the Leica Akademie. There is also a useful post in the FAQ. 19 hours ago, Homo Faber said: As I said wishful thinking. Thank you for proving my point.
