How do you do this on the D?

My bad…You are right @musersI was only following what chris7273 suggested without verifying on my own camera’s setting. For the M11-D you can’t set it up to only transfer those marked ‘favorites’ from the M11-D to the iphone…the only option available in Fotos’s background transfer option is ‘All or none’. ☹️. I think it would a great and useful feature to allow only ‘favorites’ being transferred. I hope Leica  is listening.

I have an M11-D and have it set to transfer the previews to my iPhone. It's somewhat comforting to be able to check everything is working as expected, although in practice I seldom do this. I have on occasion sent a picture to a friend while out shooting, but I rarely do this either.

Overall I'm impressed by the connectivity of the camera and Fotos. I value the GPS transfer and am delighted how I need to do nothing extra to get it and the previews transferred.

I think Background Transfer is great. The implementation is seamless - “just works”, so to speak.

Generally I am not in a rush to get to my computer to edit and retouch, but there are times I would like to quickly get a feel for what I captured soon after shooting. And it is handy to share with my SO.

Improvements-

  • I do wish there was an option to transfer larger versions, but I know considerations must be made for speed (background work in the camera to transfer while still operating the camera).
  • Add the ability to set the default destination album in Photos.

I use it occasionally. I have the M11-D, yet still don't connect it to my phone very often.

It's a bit slower than I'd like and I don't like the workflow: of adding the images and then selecting and exporting them to Lightroom, and then deleting the ones in Apple Photos (don't need two copies), and then deleting from the camera. - would use it more if it were direct to Lightroom on my phone.

Very nice functionality to have though in a pinch.

I really enjoy the FOTOS app. IF I am in a big hurry to get a few photos edited and uploaded, I will occasionally use the background transfer feature to get a closer look at my favs.

I'd like to try it, but despite multiple attempts the camera won't connect to the app (and yes, I've done full resets etc). It just "doesn't" work for me. Is it because my wifi name is hidden? Not sure; don't have time to chace it down. But right now it's not something I can even try.

(iPhone with latest software; M11P with latest firmware. Multiple resets; always get error that there's "no  internet" on the resulting wifi).

I use it all the time with my M11-D! Absolutely love it. I like to shoot and scoot and it's nice being able to just have everything pop up instantly on my phone when I sit down at a cafe.

Believe it or not, I do the same thing using the M11-P's rear screen when I go to a cafe. Why would you need to buy an M11-D for that?

Maybe the manufacturer should have made a ring magnet on the back of the M11-D to attach the iPhone? That way the manufacturer could kill two birds with one stone and not release different versions of the cameras?😂

Love the idea! Enabled it to automatically transfer „starred“ images as I do not need to transfer each and every shot. Have tested it once yet but it only worked partially (not all starred images have been transferred). But overall, as long as it works, great idea/feature.

Yep, like having dropped the film off at a rapid turnaround lab. In answer to Mr Smogg, it obviously is anti chimp and does help avoid distraction at the capture stage. Just reading 'On Being A Photographer' by David Hurn from 1997 (revised 2007). Written at the start of the digital boom, David Hurn is clearly a reportage photographer and even then he was espousing keeping in the moment, not looking at the images, maintain contact with the subject (or the object, the thing) at the centre of your essay at all times. I'm not great at avoiding chipping when I have the opportunity to do it! But after as session it's good to get some early rushes.

I like it a lot for one reason - sometimes when I photograph someone and want to give them something tangible, I carry an Instax printer. With the new feature its so much faster and easier to favorite a photo, have it show up in the phone, then send it to the printer, all without slow WiFi connections. (The newer Instax printers work via Bluetooth also)

I think the feature works very well. If I had a (longshot) wish it would be that Leica and Fujifilm worked together to allow sending directly from the camera to a printer.

Thank you for adding the feature!

I think it's fantastic and would be very disappointed if the development was discontinued based upon the results of this survey which doesn't start with the very basic qualifying question 'do you own a Leica camera which supports background transfer?'

If I were photographing as a guerrilla photojournalist in a sketchy situation, such as a Proud Boys march or Antifa protest in MAGA America 🙄, I might do this so if I could be sure the images were stored in my iCloud Photos, just in case someone attacked me. But that is not my usual photographic activity, which is more related to landscapes on hikes in Maine. So I don't use the feature now but I might at some point.

If we could select which album the photos go to then we could have a contact sheet on our phones. From there we could mark our favorites, and then the FOTOS app could just bring over our favorited DNGs automatically. I’d use THAT.
