How do you find the fabric? the fabric is very light, and i don't think it can hold a heavy rain like billingham. the color is great, and really similar with the real salt & pepper from swiss army. When you travel by air, obviously you need to take your camera equipment as carry on. I also need to take a 16" MacBook Pro, a couple of books, and other essentials. Do you look for a carry-on that contains your normal walking around camera bag and your additional stuff? Or do you wrap up the gear separately and then put your normal camera bag in your luggage? Or do you just use a super-large bag and then walk around with it mostly empty when you get to your destination? Thoughts appreciated. I have done this both ways. if you want everything in the under the seat carry on you should concern yourself with something the laptop fits in. I tend to use billingham for this. You could go big and get one of the oberwerth weekender bags with the compartment in the bottom and then a smaller bag as well. That idea has some appeal to me for weekend trips
sarkleshark Posted May 2 Share #24 Posted May 2 HI, I take the insert out of a shoulder bag like the billingham and put it in a backpack for travel and put the empty shell of the shoulder bag in the suitcase. that way I have both at my destination. Herr Barnack Posted May 15 Share #26 Posted May 15 (edited) M11 and three lenses? Perhaps a Billingham 225? I previously owned the Billingham 335 and I have found that I like the 225 better. It is smaller and does not feel as box like as the 335 when carrying it. The 335 would feel awkward but the 225 does not - to me, at least. Kiwimac Posted May 16 Share #27 Posted May 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Billingham Eventer 2. It’s sufficient to carry an M kit, Kindle, guide books etc etc when flying. In my check in case goes a Pacsafe LS 200 shoulder bag that just looks like the average traveller’s bag but which has a number of useful anti theft devices built in and doesn’t scream “Expensive Camera Bag”!. Into that goes the half insert from a Billingham Hadley One. The Eventer is usually left in my accommodation and the camera with one usually but sometimes two lenses comes along in the Pacsafe. I like the 225, once i stored my 503 and 907x blad with a couple of M’s wow they just eat em’ all heavy but love its small compact sized only caveat, i still try to work it how to carry my ipad pro safely
Kiwimac Posted May 22 Share #29 Posted May 22 I’ve actually ceased travelling with my laptop. It’s a huge 16” MBP. When I bought my most recent iPhone about 2 years ago, I ponied up for the 1TB version and use that to offload images and even to edit them since I’m only doing so to send to friends and family. Now that the MacBook Air is pretty capable I’ll probably get one of those eventually.
paulscr Posted May 22 Share #30 Posted May 22 I’m being seduced by the wotancraft easy rider (9.5l) at the moment. I like the size of the mini - but looks too much like a handbag One more instagram ad - and I’m purchasing!
jimtong Posted May 23 Share #31 Posted May 23 (edited) I have the PD travel backpack as carry on for laptop and clothes and PD 6L sling to the front of my body for camera and travel document. Solve my problem. Edited May 23 by jimtong
jaapv Posted May 24 Share #32 Posted May 24 Regulations allow you to carry a “small” camera separately. So it can be over your shoulder and all the rest in your regular carry-on. The bag you use normally can go into the checked luggage. However I normally carry the camera and two spare lenses in an vintage Lowe Orion hip bag that just holds an M and two lenses or a CL and it has always been accepted as “small Camera” at the gate. The Lowe mTrekker might fit this purpose.

I own a couple of bags that i used for years … incl my daily biz bag. They look new despite Little care. Unfortunately they dont do cam bags, inside liners are soft so would not damage lens nor camera however no foam protection nor séparations. i usually walk the street with one caméra/one lens however at times it is practical to have a bag but i haven’t seen something that would fit for my use. For travel, I use a small Tumi back bag which protects the cam and a lens rather well with my small gears (papers, scarf, phone). It would not be enough for overseas flights though. big question! I used to relying on macbook air, but first the X2D pushed me to ipad pro due to their phocus 2 software which was very optimized on ios/ipad os.. after a good couple of years.. i started leaving the macbook air and recently invested in ipad pro 1TB, all for the portability and easy of use i mean the macbook is quite capable, but for my use scenario, phocus2 and LR mobile felt more optimized in ipad at the moment, of course at go back to macbook sometimes and still need it to convert my film negatives
