DrewT Posted December 10, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 10, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Love my Q3 and its quiet operation, but sometimes I wish I could hear the shutter fire a little more ! Ive tried turning the acoustics on, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference, sometimes I don’t know if I’ve took the shot or not and end up pressing shutter button again to make sure. Does anyone else find this a little annoying or is it just me ? Drew
Advertisement Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Hi DrewT, Take a look here Q3 shutter TOO quiet !. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Le Chef Posted December 10, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 10, 2024 Even if you can’t hear it (noisy environment) you can feel it when you’ve take the shot.
Cogito Posted December 10, 2024 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2024 It takes a minute but you’ll get used to how quiet shutter is, I hope you’ll end up liking it as much as I do. I don’t make photos of people without their permission, so it’s not that I’m trying to be stealthy, but I prefer when my subjects aren’t reacting to the clicking noise and instead react to the environment or to my direction. Dr. G Posted December 10, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 10, 2024 That quiet shutter also translates to less shutter shock and vibration when taking an image.
Dazzajl Posted December 11, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2024 The shutter in your Q is a leaf shutter. So it's a tiny little device in the lens and not shutter blinds moving over the sensor in the body, which makes it much quieter and less impactful. It's a good thing, really. stuny Posted December 11, 2024 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2024 Several times I've had models think that I hadn't yet taken their photos.

Simone_DF Posted December 11, 2024 Share #8 Posted December 11, 2024 The shutter is one of the best features of the Q line, imho. Let’s not forget that it also allows for faster flash sync.
Guest Posted December 11, 2024 Share #9 Posted December 11, 2024 Easy fix. Just shout "KABOOOOOM!!" as you press the shutter button.

Cheesehead Posted December 13, 2024 Share #11 Posted December 13, 2024 I will sometimes set up a group shot with a timer so I can get into the frame. I have it set up to take several pictures in a row because invariably someone has their eyes closed or is looking away for some shots. With the very quite shutter (even with audio turned to max) I struggle to hear when it starts and stops.
David Wien Posted December 14, 2024 Share #12 Posted December 14, 2024 I guess you cant please all the folks all the time! 😀 David
ktmrider2 Posted December 15, 2024 Share #13 Posted December 15, 2024 Guess if the shutter volume had an independent control you could please everyone. I like the quiet and have volume off on all my digital cameras. I bet someone could make money if they had a downloadable app for various shutter sounds. I love the way an old ‘Blad 500C shutter sounded. That would be a hoot to put on any digital.
Olaf_ZG Posted December 15, 2024 Share #14 Posted December 15, 2024 Meanwhile, most m-shooters are complaining their camera is too loud. May be Leica should ask us next time for the exact amount of dB for the shutter. Most probably some where in the x,12345678 range to be precise, as we all learned that the difference is made in the small figures.

I prefer a shutter sound to be more mechanical and clicky. But it is what it is and I am ok with that. try a Pentax from 1985 🙂
