The battery is not brass but standard lightweight metal, which is a huge turndown imo because it will brass with silver and then not fit the camera. Same with the lens made of aluminium. And with the camera not being limited as M10-R BP und not having retro 'original' bottom plate, I unfortunately see this as a kind of cheapo copy of M10-R BP and the value of the latter going up even more. The M11 is not even called 'black paint' but glossy black instead. Very dumb move from Leica imo and clearly hipster targeting.

I am really disappointed Leica releases this pair as just a design variant, not limited or special edition as they did in the past for BPs. What is the point to collect these design variant if they could produce and sell as much as they could ?

The ultimate experiment to see how aesthetically attractive black paint lenses actually are 😉

Well, unfortunately it's a biased experiment due to the material...

Honestly, gloss black looks great but I always disliked the weight of the brass barrel on these lenses.  Maybe this will be a great compromise.

I'm curious what type of wearing this black paint will have.  I currently have two black paint Leicas:  The M240 and the MP.  The MP has this very smooth gradual erosion of the paint whereas the M240 seems to chip.  I'm not sure how the M10R BP brassed.  But it's interesting... take a look at M240 brassing photos.  It's a very chunky kind of wear.

M10rbp when used throughly will smooth brass like the MP, and yeah unlike the m240

You can find a whole brassing discussion (natural and forced) with some pictures in the "I ordered the m10-r black paint" thread. 😁

Additional brassing examples could be find with the regular M9 and the M9-P.

Any more info on the unlimited-ness of this lens? Seems like all the 'limited to 100 or 500' hearsay was nothing more than that?
