Virob Posted October 26, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just curious what people would do. I can potentially get a used Leica 24-70 for about the same price as a new Sigma 24-70. What would you choose and why? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Hi Virob, Take a look here A new Sigma 24-70/2.8 v2 or used Leica 24-70/2.8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peterschat Posted October 27, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2024 All my Leica-lenses are used (by myself). And they are fantastic and will be that for coming years (and longer). It’s a no brainer to me. I’ll go for the Leica!
Ning Ning Posted October 27, 2024 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2024 Since both lenses are technically identical, I would take the Sigma because of the warranty.
Ning Ning Posted October 27, 2024 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2024 I read the headline again and see that it's even about the V2 from Sigma. Another argument in favor of the Sigma.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted October 27, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2024 Sigma for sure. Gordon
Ivar B Posted October 28, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 28, 2024 I see some tests stating that the optical difference between V1 and V2 are pretty marginal and not likely to show up in practice. However, some of the complaints against V1 was a litte poor autofocus, and it was slower than Leica to wake up when the camera was turned on. This appears to be fixed with V2, in addition to lower weight. A lot speaks in favour of Sigma.

Leicalook Posted October 28, 2024 Share #9 Posted October 28, 2024 @Ivar B Thanks a lot. So far I saw "premium" and self-chosen titles. The "sponsoring" was new to me. I still think about going for "premium"... Maybe I will do that some day... Best wishes Stefan And SORRY for off-topic!

I think it was automatically recorded some years back.

WvE Posted October 29, 2024 Share #12 Posted October 29, 2024 (edited) I tried both in the shop, the Sigma was a smaller and lighter and had somewhat better autofocus, I will buy the Sigma this weekend. Edited October 29, 2024 by WvE

Better ergonomics (in line with my other Leica L lenses) and better look, similar IQ, no extra buttons that cannot be used with SL3. The weight difference (typically matters) is too small to matter when combined with an SL3 body.
jaapv Posted November 1, 2024 Share #17 Posted November 1, 2024 In the event that a lens has to be repaired the Sigma will be back in a matter of days, a coupe of weeks at the most. In case of the Leica it will be AWOL for half a year. 5

Yes, there is no doubt that you are correct. As I said I just sent my 24-70 for repair and I have an 24-90 as well so no urgency at all, but when someone with an M body for example needs to have something repaired and maybe the camera is used almost daily, being told that a repair is 5 months is completely unacceptable. Nobody else will get away with this state of affairs.
