mhasman Posted October 18, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for 35mm Leica lens for M7, and used one in good condition might be a good option. Some on KEH now. Would you please help me to understand deferences between those two: https://www.keh.com/shop/leica-summicron-m-35-30-mm-f-2-wide-angle-lens-for-leica-m.html https://www.keh.com/shop/leica-35mm-f-2-summicron-m-aspherical-11673-m-mount-lens-black-6-bit-coded-germany-39.html I appreciate comments, recommendations, shared experience regarding those two, and other 35mm lenses. Advertisement Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Hi mhasman, Take a look here Please help understand between 35mm f/2 Summicron-M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Al Brown Posted October 18, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2024 (edited) One is ASPH v1 and the other is ASPH v2. Any of the two will do just fine but some v1 are not 6-bit coded yet and v2 has more aperture blades (11 vs. 8 in v1). This slightly affects the shape of bokeh and determines the count of sunstars. mhasman Posted October 18, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted October 18, 2024 (edited) Thank you! Is v2 the current version Leica sales brand new? Edited October 18, 2024 by mhasman

There is also an APO-Summicron 35mm but that one is much more expensive. -Thomas
Olaf_ZG Posted October 19, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2024 I have the v2, but don’t like it, and try to sell it for more than 6 months now, but there doesn’t seems to be any interest. So I advice you to find a second hand one as you most probably could get it significant cheaper than a new one.
lct Posted October 19, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2024 The Summicron 35/2 asph v2 (11673) is a great little lens indeed. My favorite modern 35/2 bar the apo version i have no experience with. Sharp w/o harshness with a smoother bokeh than the asph v1. Only con is its screw-in hood to me but it is a matter of taste and i use the little hood of the Elmar-M 50/2.8 instead. For a short praise, see:

Danner Posted October 25, 2024 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2024 Haven't owned the v2, but my preference is the v1 as I like the plastic snap-on hood better than the current generation (the v2) twist-on metal hood. As I understand it, they are optically the same. But like has been stated, either will not disappoint.
