Sheesh…. Talk about storms in teacups. Who uses a filter for Macro? More risk of aberrations and reflections, minimal risk to the front element. And the hood casts a shadow on your subject. Naked lens territory. Polarizing filters are a pain with any hood. So just get an appropriate slim filter for all other use. And why do slim filters exist? Because the need is a design choice by many lens manufacturers.

On the Q3 43 macro is not just for "macro" shooting.  I've had to engage macro a few times because my subject was closer than the minimum focus distance with the ring in the standard position.  The "macro" zone is further away on the Q3 43 so there may be times in "normal" shooting that you will need to engage the macro mode.

Isn’t the simple answer to just buy any suitable 49mm round hood which will screw onto the filter?

Plenty on eBay from about £2, and no, using a cheap lens hood won’t affect your image quality!

Yes, that will be my temporary workaround. I say temporary because I prefer the square style hood, as it's more compact and offers more protection against bumps, so as soon as a third party will release one, I'll jump on that.

Leica is not alone in this - Sigma hoods for longer lenses are not the bee’s knees either.

I have never hesitated to buy third party ones, preferably screw in ones. The best hoods are to be found on Zeiss and Voigtländer M lenses. Leica should have a good look at them.

The designer of this hood probably also created the steel rim reissue screw-on hood, which causes slight vignetting with the original design when used with filters. This person probably doesn’t use filters.

Being a Q2 user, I think the Q range is not really aimed at (semi)pros. Most of the accessories are largely of aethestic appeal.

All Leica cameras are aimed at pros and enthusiasts. Using filters on a Q is not a sign of a pro user.

The issue is that it's not just Macro. I asked about filters when in non-Macro mode, and they do not fit either. An ultra-slim filter might fit, but definitely not NDs, polarizers or other thicker filters

I‘ve bought the B&W Nano Filter and the Haoge Hood for the Q3 43!

everything works perfectly fine and the hood quality is on par with Leica
