Has anyone else got examples at ISO 12,500 or above in colour?

I shot a gig last week in my usual dark dive bar, some examples coming up - the first one at ISO 6400 1/125 f2, for the rest I switched up to ISO 12500 and same exposure settings.

I'm not disappointed, I think the files look quite ok, but not quite on the level of the SL2-S. This place is really a torture test with different colours of soft LED lights. In this case I have gone for quite a punchy edit (modern 01) which probably does not help the colour management. Lightroom denoise has been applied, with a bit higher setting than I would normally use (around 38 instead of 26). I could also mention that the bright light source behind the musicians is a new 'feature' in the bar and did not help with exposure or editing process.

Apart from the difference in file quality there is of course a huge difference in ergonomics, haptics and EVF quality - I did not get those decisive moments with the same confidence I can with my SL2-S. Still, quite useable though if I find myself at a gig without my SL2-S e.g. when travelling.

I'm still waiting for my SL3 but I'm assuming these small differences will still apply.

Lower Multnomah Falls, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

Handheld, 1/4 sec, f/16, ISO 200.  I'm a little disappointed in the OIS.  Most in this series were too blurry to use.  This also has motion blur, and I was resting the camera on a concrete pillar, although the original is sharper than it appears here.

Let’s be clear. This is not due to the camera.

it is simply due to the fact that good photographers know how and what gear to use…

I guess those opting for the new Q know what they want and how to achieve it.

What I see here is more often than not to do with post work rather than capture.

Not to be rude about the Q3 43 images above, in my opinion, there are also excellent ones to be seen in the Q thread!

But in both cases, 1- good photographers and 2 - good post processing, you’re basically pulling from the same group of photographers as the other sub forums.  So, obviously, there’s something about the camera that works well for the users.  Of course, a camera is just a tool, but a tool does inspire good work and flow- one of the reasons I use the M system.  Not that it makes me a good photographer, but it does make the images I take more enjoyable and often better.

Although the above discussion might be better continued in a separate thread, I found it very interesting. I wouldn't say that the image quality in this thread stands above other camera threads, as I have found excellent images within so many threads in this forum. As David pointed out, esp. in the thread for the original Q model there are so many outstanding examples. As I have flooded this thread here with a lot of my pictures I plead guilty for putting some efforts into my post processing workflow. My pictures therefore can't give any useful information on the ooc image quality, I rather try to show how the files could be treated in post. As I like to put some time and effort into my hobby, the post processing is an important part of my photography. Others don't like to fiddle with the files and try to achieve the perfect look ooc and I am envious of every talented photographer who manages this. What I can say in conclusion is that I think I have found with my two Q3 models the most capable and enjoyable tools for my photographic endeavors so far:)

I envy you your skies at this time of year, James, not to mention your lack of cables all over the place! I cannot match this in Wien...

David

We have some nice morning light these days here in Berlin, that's true :) I haven't been to Vienna for a while now, but from my memories I can't remember the cables you mentioned? Don't you have some great views at the river or by the canal in the city centre?

Another one from our walk around the lake yesterday, as I didn't show any sign of water in my previous posts :)

Have you used AI denoise?

I normally don’t use any denoise, also in this picture I haven’t.
here the color version (without any editing). I don’t know the SL2-S, but for me the Q3 makes a great job.

Very convincing, on both colour and noise counts. I may have to change my decision on this camera!

And it's a lovely photo in colour as well.

Unfortunately we were a little late, but here are a few impressions of the Jochpass Memorial 2024.
