The 45mm planar set the standard 😇

Agreed although various 50, 55 and 85mm Planars were very good as well. Back when I used Contax SLR Cameras 139Q, RX, RTS2, I bought the Zeiss anniversary edition 85mm/f1.2 Planar. Sadly it was a step too far and not as good as the 85/1.5 that I was about to sell but decided to keep. Still the 85/1.2 was a good buy, as I sold it for around one and a half times the price I had bought it for. Similarly the 50 Planar 1.4 was not quite as good as the 50 Planar 1.7. Back when that German website used to test and publish technical data for all sorts of lenses from various manufacturers (before DxO), the 50 Planar 1.7 was the top scoring "standard" length lens, just ahead of the 45 Planar-G.

I think I know why 43mm.
Some people want Q with 50mm lens. Some want 35mm. (50+35)/2 makes them all "almost happy", makes them buying.

And at the same time, they avoid eating up the market for the M-series.

What do a Q and a M have in common apart from physical resemblance?

I feel like the Q is closer to a SL than a M.

I'm guessing a focal length of 43mm doesnt take away from the M and SL lens lines. I know a few who have a Q with an SL or M body and the Q takes care of the 28mm focal length for them, instead of buying a 28mm lens. Cheaper too at one time than the 28 lux. Havent kept up with prices though.

I disagree. The 28mm Lux M has a distinct rendering that is very, very different to the Q. The SL 28 APO is in a completely different league too.
If a user is not interested in a Lux M, there is always Voigtlander and their outstanding selection of 28mm lenses.

Anyway, I still fail to see what a manual rangefinder has to do with an autofocus one lens camera solution

Or it pleases no one ☹️ As an aside, I wonder what the crop frame lines will be?

It would be smart for Leica to do 50 and 85 - to fool whoever does not understand reality between crop and optic.

Odd choice.
Not wide as 35, too far from 50.

With Q3 sensor size, we now get really versatile crop camera with capabilities of wide 28, widish 35 and 20mp of sensor for 50mm users.

40mm is not versatile at all

If you try a 40 on an M you just might change your mind. Step back and you have a 35mm and step forward and you have a 50mm. To me that makes it highly versatile for a one lens setup.
