bschrdr Posted August 16, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello there, I’ve got the Leica Q3 a couple months ago and have been on the hunt for a compact and compatible flash since then. I stumbled upon a picture of Greg Williams using his Q3 and a nice and compact flash light. As he is the master using the Q cameras I’ve wondered: what flash light is he using? I would appreciate anyone having a guess! I have attached an image of it I found on his Instagram. Thank you very much. Ben

coleica Posted August 17, 2024 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) The Fuji EF-X20, as stated in one of his videos. The flash is no longer in production, so you will need to buy it used. A quick check showed they are available on Ebay for between $450 and $600. I opted for the Leica SF40. Check out this YouTube video (he starts talking about flash at the 9:40 marker): Hopefully, I am not breaking any rules. Good luck. Will look into it immediately!
jjvornov Posted August 21, 2024 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2024 I bought one of these based on Greg's video. It's really hard to get it working well as you are manually balancing flash and ambient with a little flash that's way more powerful than it looks with limited adjustability. Greg is an experienced studio photographer and probably can nail the settings with a few tests. I brought it with my Q3 to a party last week and ended mostly shooting with my iPhone as its descrete, will generate nice images almost in the dark and doesn't blind people with flash in their eyes as this little unit only flashes straight forward. If I remember correctly, those little flash units were about U.S. $40 new. I gave away four of them. Ouch!
