Thanks LCT

Varta must have their own part number, unless you can only buy their batteries from Leica.

You can only buy them from Leica. They are just manufactured by Varta for Leica. This was also the case immediately before the part number was reconfigured as a ‘spare part’ number.

If manufacturers of component spare parts (Varta) could sell directly to the consumer, the entities selling the complete branded products (Leica) would lose another source of revenue. Could you imagine?

I have dealt with the spares department before via Customer Care, after I was referred there by another department. They were very helpful and were able to set up an invoice I could pay online, then sent the 'part' to me directly (actually a binocular case that wasn't available as a retail item).

My question, though, would be why this change in availability? I might wonder if they are managing a diminishing resource at this point. It will be interesting to see if anyone gets batteries in the future with production dates later than when these things vanished from the shelves (mid 2024 or earlier?).

Just purchased several from a US retailer. All with 2424 dates. So seems they are still making them. Now I have to see if they hold a charge.

I completely understand the 240 is now leica camera generations old, however not having additional batteries available to purchase is wrong and against what  part the brand represents ….. with their battery philosophy you can’t pass on a leica camera to your grandchildren, sure lenses but not the camera- sad.

At some point this will hurt the M series, for example my grandson will need to buy a new M just to try his grandfather’s lenses…. I want him to hold the camera I held, to know this was the camera I used so often….

Dealers don’t have them.

And neither does Leica NJ who I’ve ordered with and they told me could be multiple months… they are on the path making the camera extinct in my opinion

He will likely complain about the low MP and also say that the M56 makes more "film-like" photos than his M57.

That may be…. But unrelated to next generation being able to use a family heirloom handed down because of a battery ….
