Jonathan Levin Posted July 5, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Really enjoying this camera and the 24-90. I don't know if it is just me, or maybe a setting or something. What I've noticed is on occasion, the image in the EVF seems darker than normal. Almost like it is in exposure preview mode, but it is not. I am using EVF Extended. Has anyone else noticed this or am I the only lucky one. I did not try to shut camera off and restart to see if that makes a difference. Any suggestions appreciated. Jonathan. Advertisement Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Hi Jonathan Levin, Take a look here SL3 dark EVF? Is it me?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jrp Posted July 5, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted July 5, 2024 I have this issue, too, in bright sunlight. Â But my glasses also darken in bright light.
Jonathan Levin Posted July 5, 2024 Author Share #3  Posted July 5, 2024 Ok. So I’m not crazy (to much). Yes it seems to be in bright/ sunlight. No sunglasses. Almost seems like the EVF is going into some kind of power saving mode but doesn’t wake upon looking through VF
hansvons Posted July 6, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted July 6, 2024 Highlights-weighted metering can cause what you are experiencing.

Thanks For replying Hansvons On my SL2 exposure preview is active when in EVF Extended. I think the EVF is showing you the image the exposure settings will produce when in Highlight Weighted Metering. To brighten the view in the EVF you can dial in some + exposure compensation (at the risk of clipping the highlights) or disable Exposure Preview. I tend to avoid Highlight Weighting metering except when I absolutely don't want to clip the highlights for this reason. Jonathan Levin Posted July 6, 2024 Author Share #8 Â Posted July 6, 2024 (edited) Very helpful! Any clue where in settings that setting is? And yes again. Jonathan Levin Posted July 6, 2024 Author Share #11 Â Posted July 6, 2024 Thanks SrMi and Luke_Miller. Â I did a check of Live view settings and it is set to P-A-S. I tried Center Weighted metering mode and behavior is the same. Maybe something I have to live with.

And if I put my hand partially covering lens, you can actually see the viewfinder actually trying to adjust. Can someone test this? Again, maybe this is the way it is supposed to be. hdmesa Posted August 22, 2024 Share #14  Posted August 22, 2024 To add to this older discussion: On my SL3, if I have the EVF set to 120 fps, the brightness of the EVF while previewing a scene is darker than the photo when played back. In 60 fps mode, the EVF brightness matches the image captured. This is in Aperture Priority mode with Auto ISO, using a dummy adapter with an M lens. Haven’t tried other modes in 120 fps.
beewee Posted August 23, 2024 Share #15  Posted August 23, 2024 Since the SL3 has the same EVF as the SL2/-S, I’ll chime in. For outdoor shooting, I just have a preset that sets the EVF to max brightness instead of Auto brightness. I do the same on the Q3. Both are bright enough when set to max brightness while wearing sunglasses.
