Just picked up a used M10 from Leicastore Miami, thank you Josh, and have a question about the strap. In the past all Leicas I’ve owned (except the Monos) came with a braided nylon strap that had a rubber neck pad. IMHO, this is the best strap ever as it is durable and flexible while also providing a secure grip. To my surprise, the M10 came with a strap that looks like fake leather with a cloth backing. Is this standard on the M10? In the end, I really don’t care as I have nylon straps but I am curious.

Yes, that was standard. Mine never left the box.

To take the strap concept further, whilst I like the standard Leica strap, especially the quirky connectors, I have come to prefer the Peak Design strap, also with its unique connector system. First it is a much wider strap giving greater comfort over time, but also very quickly swapped over to any other camera fitted with the same system. One strap, multiple cameras!

You probably had the excellent 14312 nylon strap previously:

The annoying thing is that this strap has now been discontinued altogether.

Yes, that’s it. I have two or three extras lying around. I’ll just use one for the M10 as I really am starting to hate this new strap.

Thank you all.

Edit:

1. You’d think that at these prices, Leica would include a genuine leather strap.

2. Doe anyone know why Leica discontinued the 14312? It’s such a good strap I can’t see why they would.

Maybe the M10 strap is leather (at least partly) but not high quality leather? I think the straps Leica sell separately are described as 'leather', but I'm not sure if they are quite the same. I guess killing off the 14312 was style over substance - someone probably thought a nylon strap didn't fit with the current brand image. It's a shame they didn't keep those protective inserts above the strap lugs they had on the M6 and M7 either - together with the design of the 14312, they solved the problem of scuffing the top plate back in the 1980s, a lesson that seems to have been forgotten. Today, many of the digital Ms you see on the used market have some degree of scuffing, whatever strap has been used.

Just take care your nylon strap is not damaging the camera too much. The black chrome above the strap lugs is vulnerable.
Some scuffing is unavoidable though if you don’t want to use tape on your camera.

I’ll just add some black electrical tape to each side. Should work well.

Yes. The M10 strap is for the box. Get a RocknRoll strap.

This is a strap

I tried the M10 strap, found it unworkable, and put it back in the box. Much prefer the flexible nylon - Domke Gripper or Upstrap.
There are many padded lug ring clip options on Amazon.

The Peak Design solution looks nice, but I prefer very thin straps.

I had those thin leather straps but they cut into my collar bone. Not very comfortable.

I now have the black is black wide from rocknroll and never leaves the camera. I went through so many straps until I bought this. Haven't looked at another strap since. I ordered it 110cm for my height

I got some small leather O-rings (to place over the lugs) from Leica SoHo (Craig) for my 14312 straps, which I put on all M bodies.

My choices relate to functionality; the 14312 is hardly a looker. The arguably better looking leather straps that come with some more recent M bodies are far less functional for my use.

For the same reason, I replaced the stock SL2 strap with the PD leash.  When attached to one lug and small base plate, the body and zoom hang nicely against hip or back, and the strap can be easily adjusted or removed.  I never remove my M strap when shooting.

I was  never particularly fond of the 14312 straps that came with the M6TTL and the M9. The one that came with the M9 (purchased used in 2012) was apparently not the original one and in quite bad condition compared to the camera . The strap looked like it was starting to disintegrate, with the nylon threads becoming loose. I still have it but never used it.

I kind of liked the strap that came with the M10, although it was not very durable. After the protective tabs had broken i moved it to my M9, because this has the plastic protector tabs on the sides of top plate. I have used a few rather narrow leather straps on my M10 after that, but now have this:

It seems to be of good quality, but was was quite stiff in the beginning.

Yes, but the area covered by the tape will eventually be visible when the tape is removed. It will have a slightly different luster than the surrounding area that has been exposed to polishing in normal use. Therefore I use tape only temporarily when using a strap that doesn't have protective tabs.
