satijntje Posted June 26, 2024 Share #4 Posted June 26, 2024 A well kept secret 😕 Only Leica and a few dealers know it. IMO, this should not be integrated in a hidden but in the normal menue. Why all these secrets? If I buy a camera I want to know what I get. 3
jaapv Posted June 26, 2024 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2024 Because if you start using the service menu you can brick the camera and send it on a six month holiday to Solms. There is nothing for the user there.

It appears the menu only shows information, and as a user (or buyer), I would very much like to know the camera's shutter count and battery status.
jaapv Posted June 26, 2024 Share #7 Posted June 26, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nitecore chargers show battery health Shutter count is a rather irrelevant number.

jaapv Posted June 26, 2024 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2024 Depends on the price. I would buy the better maintained camera. I have yet to see a shutter wear out under 500.000 clicks.

But then the camera would need a two part menu, one public for the owner (like Satijntje holds) and one (very hard to enter) for dealers to brick the thing . . 😏 I bought a ‘demo’ but the bottom showed it must have had quite some use. So second-hand? Edited June 26, 2024 by Alberti
satijntje Posted June 26, 2024 Share #11 Posted June 26, 2024 Would you buy a car without knowing how many km it had done? 100% will say no! Why all these secrets??? This is not necessary.
jaapv Posted June 27, 2024 Share #12 Posted June 27, 2024 If it consisted of non-wearing parts I would be interested in the cosmetic condition.
crons Posted June 27, 2024 Share #13 Posted June 27, 2024 (edited) Shutter count should be something listed under the regular menu in the camera information. I understand service menus not for customers. You don't sell cars with a scan tool. Those are for mechanics. But my milage shouldn't only be available to mechanics. Information about my camera should be visible to me. All of it. It's just information I'm looking at. There is no reason to hide it from me. rpsawin Posted June 27, 2024 Share #14 Posted June 27, 2024 Fine. Let them have access to the menu. And if the camera gets bricked up ,Leica has ZERO liability and if the camera gets sent in to them it goes to the bottom of the incoming repair list. Shutter Counter gives an indication of how intense a camera is used. But we should know hereby if that counter counts the release button actuations (both mechanical and electronic shutter) or only the mechanical shutter
rpsawin Posted June 27, 2024 Share #17 Posted June 27, 2024 It is meant to be. The chance of someone causing their camera lock up/go out of commission seems rather high. And they will expect Leica to fix it immediately expecting everyone else to get in the queue behind them. If they want to tinker let them, but not at everyone elses time and expense. I cannot see any reason why this is kept secret.

M11 lockups come readily to mind amongst a long history of “quirks”.
