She took a wee tumble straight onto an asphalt parking lot today from about waist level. The top dial took the direct impact followed by the filter thread on the lens taking the second. Two questions... 1. Is there a way that's commonly used to re-round the front of the lens so filters can screw into them again? (Side note, this is why I don't use filters to protect the front element. It would have shattered and most likely a shard would've done the very thing it was placed on their to prevent. I realize I'm in the minority here, ha.) It's probably permanently deformed isn't it... it's fine if so, just wondering. 2. The top dial definitely works fine, but has slightly more resistance. Almost like it's maybe grinding on something? How is this top button attached? If I could understand the mechanism of the top button, it might help me figure out what happened when it got hit that's causing this. Regardless, I picked it right back up and kept shooting away all day. Here's a bit of proof that it's still capable after taking a beating. Welcome, dear visitor! An estimate will at least give you the inside info you need. IMHO turning up for any shoot with a camera lens combo that looks and is damaged is a no no! Markey Posted June 9, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2024 My SL2s is similarly damaged but just shows impact on the edge . Works fine but that first custom button has been jammed by the impact. I doubt if there is enough money in the SL2s (looking at prices) that would justify a repair given that mine , at least, is otherwise functional. It’s a sort of “reverse” vise with curved sections that you inset into the threads and wind open to bend out the dent. It worked ok on a Fuji lens I had dropped - enough to be able to mount a filter afterwards - but it wasn’t the best repair and I’m not sure I would use it on a more expensive lens. jaapv Posted June 9, 2024 Share #8 Posted June 9, 2024 Repairing a filter thread is not something that needs to be sent to Leica. Any competent technician can do it with a short turnaround. Looking at your image I very much doubt that weathersealing is compromised. However, if something has shifted inside it is a job for Leica. I bought it with a set of different diameter urethane “bungs” for front ring removal and a variable width “screw heads on a rail” type tool for unscrewing element holding rings (not sure of the correct term for both of those!) It worked ok to remove the dent - and a bit of matt black paint meant the lens was presentable enough to resell later but we’re not talking Leica APO value/prices 🔧📷💷 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The whole front is probably designed to be replaced, so you should contact Leica and ask if they can schedule you later in the year (preferably after you high season). The SL lenses can only be repaired in Germany at this time. they predicted 6-7 months, but my lens came back in 3 to the US.
