Popular Post topoxforddoc Posted May 13, 2024 Popular Post Share #1 Posted May 13, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) One of my very first jazz LPs was Hideaway by David Sanborn. It came out in 1980 and I bought it on release as an American import to the UK. I played it again and again; it is still on my shelf. Later on, I was privileged to meet him twice at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. What a charming gentleman he was - and a fabulous sax player, who played with Bowie, Steve Wonder and many others, as well having his own band. Sadly he departed today into the studio in the sky. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP S(006) 70/2.5 Summarit S - Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2016 Welcome, dear visitor! wellfleet Posted May 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2024 He co-hosted, along with Jools Holland, the best music show ever to exist on American TV. Just check out the truly unusual and original lineups the show put forward. And all the performers played at least one piece together at the end of each show. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday_Night_(American_TV_program)
topoxforddoc Posted May 21, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted May 21, 2024 Thank you all for your comments and likes. David Sanborn's career was so wide ranging and his influence was immense on this generation of sax players. He was probably the greatest player of his generation. I just felt very lucky to have met him and photographed him on more than one occasion.
