Not only the costs are high, your postman get's a hernia and the parcel car needs a trailor ... I purchased a non-photography-related electronic item earlier this week, and I was pleasantly surprised that the packaging could all be recycled, except for a small plastic bag that kept the item itself dust-free. Smudgerer Posted March 20, 2024 Share #25 Â Posted March 20, 2024 The photograph of SL-3's boxing looks fine to me, however the Summilux 35 Re-Issue's packaging was really pathetic in comparison to the delivery of other Leica lenses, even my 28mm Elmarit's packaging was far better AND the lens came with a good leather case, the Summilux just had a cheapo draw-string bag! I hope the definition translated by google is "not so bad": An unpackaged store is a retail store that differs from other stores in that the entire range is offered loose - i.e. without containers and therefore free of packaging. The S cameras also came in similar packaging, and they were of course quite a bit more expensive. It has only really been the M and Q cameras that have that luxury style packaging, as they are aimed largely at collectors (or at least aimed more squarely at collectors and rich enthusiasts than the S or SL cameras). I think that may also be a holdover from when Leica was owned by Hermes. The S and SL cameras, while luxury in their way, were aimed at being professional cameras, not collectibles, so I think their packaging was more utilitarian. SL packaging is ok. I kind of like it more than their drawers type with lots of drawstrings bags. Very annoying to unpacked. Minimalist packaging is the way to go. The packaging is fine for me. They could even replace the foam with recyclable materials for all I care. It gets stored in the attic once I unpaked it just for the next buyer when I would ever want to sell it. I am glad that they kept the small and light silky bags.
