SL2-S and aps-c multishot

Dear all,

Just wondering. Is there a technical reason why above combination is not possible?

I would love to use my SL2-S with my TL zooms and a tripod in multishot mode. Would make for a relatively light set to carry around..... and give some new perspective for the tl lenses!

People do it with SL2 cameras, but you are cutting down the resolution to about half, the SL2-2 is 24MP

Multishot works only with Full frame lenses. The camera does it with multiple images using the electronic shutter. Rolling shutter and banding are still a challenge with it.

Rolling shutter has never been a problem for me with MS on the S or SL2. If you have subject movements due to wind etc you will get aliasing that may affect the shot even with the option to correct for it. If you are attempting to shoot a moving subject, boat or car etc rolling shutter will be a factor.   As for banding never have seen that either. There are conditions where MS just won’t work but it still is a great option to have and the way Leica implemented it in camera is great. 
 

Huge oversight on the SL3 as it has been implemented by other camera manufacturers with the 60MP sensor.

I would think you will get multi shots on the SL3 in FW in a year.
The SL2 didn't have it when it came out.

Do you mean they might have forgotten how it works? They made the guy who designed it redundant and have only just realised they have to re-employ him for the SL3?

I was pleasantly surprised how the Gigapixel worked with my 16 mpx files from my old Phase One P20.

It's not something that just works, there's a lot of fine-tuning involved. People here have mentioned that multi-shot is a lot better on the SL2 than on the S1r, for instance.

What probably happened is that it wasn't ready in time for the 1.0 firmware, so they went ahead with the release instead of delaying launch.

I think that there might be too few people that use the feature. 

As you need a tripod, I think many scrip this function. 

But maybe I am wrong. 

But if enough people complain about via the Leica photos app, maybe we get an update.

They probably have to reimplement it for the new software and sensor, or they are waiting for Panasonic to implement the core elements for the new sensor, or they had user feedback that nobody needs it (like with DOF preview).

At launch of SL2 Leica stated MS would come later and it did about 6 months or so. I have seen no mention of MS at all from Leica with the SL3. 
 

Might not be possible in camera. Sony has it as an option with their 60MP cameras but it’s not done in camera. 
 

Leica did a very good job with MS on both the SL2 and S.

The Leica SL3 is a different body and IBIS, they just need to change the implementation.

Why it was not done for lunch is a mystery, but the company is small and slow.
