… I will buy the SL2…

Having the original SL, I didn’t want to wait for the SL3, so I bought a second hand 2s. Man, I love this camera, really do, especially its colors and especially its ability with low light (great when using a f4 zoom and 1/1000 f.e.). I thought then, I would trade in the camera towards the SL3.

I could, but actually, sometimes having two bodies with different f/l is desirable…

So, instead of changing the 2s for a SL3, I decided to buy a second body. The SL2. At current prices, value is a bargain.

I was similar, I thought hard about the SL3 but a couple of days ago found a bargain new in box silver SL2 and jumped at it.
I'm only planning to use it with M glass, so the fact that the EVF is the same between the SL2 and SL3 I figured the price of the SL2 was a no-brainer. The flip screen and other rumoured features wasn't worth the price premium for my particular use case.  If one day I get into L lenses I think the SL3 would be a decent upgrade, and I like the M11 sensor.
As you say it's the right time to buy an SL2, there are some good new and used bargains out there.

I was waiting to see reviews of the SL3 and VERY glad I did.

Three things will keep me from buying (at least in the near term).

1) Same EVF as my SL2-S

2) Different battery-who wants to have to carry and charge multiples.

3) Lack of multi-shot capability. Not used often but a treat when it fits for a subject.

Thanks to all the reviewers, you saved my a bunch of money.

Agreed, but what about all the "old" but still less than 2 year old batteries?  Will old charger work on new batteries or have to buy new charger(s) as well? Minor issues overall but enough with the other points to hold off at least for now.

Q3 was shipped with the new battery and the old charger. Yes, it works.

Interesting thread. I am still reading and digesting reviews and comments on the SL3 as I am in the market to ‘upgrade’.  I have had the original SL since its release, mainly using M mount lenses (Zeiss for me) although I do have the 24-90 (great IQ).  Reasons I’d like to get a newer model (in no order): more rounded design, better EVF, better higher ISO, quick menu…….and IBIS (IBIS prob being the main attraction).  I know that opens up value options with the SL2 or the S model so will be looking carefully at those models vs the SL3.

Yes, re (3), it’s useful to eradicate things like aliasing, false color etc for things like landscapes to maximise what any given sensor can produce by eliminating the issues with the color filter array.

Of course, the SL2 didn’t have multi-shot to begin with, and was later added. It would be nice to know if that’s the plan with the SL3 too.

Also:

1/2 stop less IBIS

Louder shutter, slower flash synch speed

Crappy battery life (I have some of the new Q3/SL3 batteries that I use in my SL2, they charge just fine in the old charger)

I put my option at my dealer for a SL90-280 demo as well. Together with the SL2, it will cost me slightly more than a new SL3.

As said, the SL3 will be great, but I don’t need it (yet) and having a combo 2/2s is great due to the same haptics.

That said, within some years I see myself buying the upgrade…

Clicking on the profile, because it can change much more than how the camera focuses from minimum shutter speed to exposure reading to ISO to type of shutter etc.

Q.How many buttons do you need to change all those components?

A. Ask your haberdasher.

It's a personal choice. You're not going to convince me of anything, but if you want to keep wasting your time trying to convince me that Fuji is better that's up to you.

I picked up my silver SL2 new from the dealer at a price I couldn’t pass up.  We pay a fortune for things over here in Australia compared to those in the US so it might not seem such a bargain to people overseas, but I paid under $4k USD.

No, multi-shot? Well, start looking for used SL2/SL2s then.

I had the SL2 and the SL2-S, both together for a short time.  I think that they make a great pair and, in the end I kept the SL2-S as I'm primarily a low light shooter.  The area that the SL2 had some more magic than the Sl2-S was high contrast black and white images with the APO Summicron-SL lenses.  There was just something about those images that stood out as compared with the SL2-S which, in my opinion, has better colors (at least when I had them close to the time the SL2-S was first released - don't know if more current SL2 firmware changed this).  I should be getting my SL3 early next week and I'm hoping I can get 90% of the low light performance of the SL2-S with the high contrast black and white imagery of the SL2 while still retaining the color science of the SL2-S for general shooting.

But anyone who grabs a preowned SL2 to shoot alongside their SL2-S will have an amazing two body kit for close to the price of the SL3.
