Tried that doesn’t work I have had shutter blur at 1/2000 th.

Which camera? Many Nikon shooters use mechanical shutters at 1/2000, AFAIK.

SL ( no dual IS but OIS) and S5 and S5ii which was  the post I reacted to. I have no idea about Nikon. It may be specific to Sigma lenses. Look in the forum: all expert Sigma long lens users report the same.

I am familiar with the automatic ES Panasonic has had it for a decade. That is for shutter slap at a specific speed. But not for shutter slap across the range. I suspect it has to do with the frequency of the vibration.

Quite likely you did not notice that these lenses MUST be used with Electronic Shutter, otherwise the images will be soft.

You always should use ES, when possible with any lens, especially tele and especially with high Mpix camera, but what is it to do with my comment?

Ok let me check myself a bit.
I never had issues with Fujifilm GFX100 with 250+1.4x and mech. shutter or Canon 1DX with 400.
But I actually had some strange blurryness recently with Panasonic S1R and Leica R 180f3.4. I will compare S1R and 1DX with my EF converted Contax N 400f4 with mech. shutter EFCS and ES.

My copy of the Sigma 500 just arrived. My first impression ist very positive! It's small, lightweight and very sharp. Handheld shots with 1/30 sec are no problem. I wonder how it compares to my beloved Apo Telyt R 2800/4 (with 1.4TC). So it's 500 5.6 vs 400 5.6, AF vs MF, OIS in lens vs OIS in camera and so on. I will go out and try to find some deers later this afternoon, maybe I'm lucky.

Congrats; I have this lens on order... Looking forward seeing your findings!

I tested

S1R + MC 21 + N 400f4

@ f4 1/400s IBIS MF

4 images with ES, 4 images with MS

3 each tack sharp, 1 each not sharp (for what ever reason ...)

so I don't see a difference between the two shutter options with a long tele lens

a second test

S1R + MC21 + EF1.4xII + N 400f4 = 560f5.6

@ f5.6 1/400s IBIS MF handheld

4 images each MS and ES

IBIS worked well, all 'as sharp as it gets' with that lens + extender combination at open aperture

no visual difference between the two shutter modes

I could not find any deer this afternoon. Just boring city-geese in the last light. SL3 with Sigma 500 5.6, 1/40s, f5.6, ISO 4000.

This is a cropped image of a Dunnock, scientific name Prunella modularis, a small passerine bird native to Eurasia. The picture was taken using the Leica SL3 and the new Sigma 500mm f/5.6 lens at ISO6400. The Dunnock is a common garden bird often found on the ground, searching for insects and seeds.

This is another cropped image of a bird, taken with the SL3 plus 500mm f/5.6 with a 1.4x converter at ISO4000. I recommend lowering the aperture one stop to get better sharpness.

From every review I've seen so far, not marginal. The Sigma 500mm is getting rave reviews for it's optical performance and utter lack of aberrations. Test shots I've seen show OUTSTANDING sharpness across the entire frame. As good as anything made by Canikony.

It is rare these days reviewers give nothing but "rave reviews", otherwise they will not be a reviewer for long.

I picked up a Sigma 500 f5.6 DG DN Sport today. The lens will unfortunately have to go back to the store; it's simply not sharp. I suspect I have got a bad copy and I want to test another copy just to check...

Those that are using the Sigma 500 DG DN in L-mount; please chime in regarding the sharpness of your copy ( @mschuette and others...).

I add an example here, shot at f5.6 from tripod with electronic shutter on and stabilisation off (I also run some tests with the stabiliser activated, same results; also same result stopping down to f8). To be sure, I shot with both SL3 and SL2-S, same softness. Image is with SL3, the cropped image is from the centre of the main image and with 100 percent magnification. No processing, just uploading in Lightroom and exporting jpegs.

Regarding Sigma and sharpness: The Sigma 70-200 f2.8 DG DN Sport is amazingly sharp...

It's a shame to read that. I think it's the AF of the SL3 though. I also get slightly blurry pictures occasionally, but most are razor-sharp.
