Advertisement Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Hi egrossman, Take a look here Thumb Support for Q3 - too good to be true?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Wellsyboy Posted February 20, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) Marketplace second, very good fake or jammy bugger - which is it?? Edited February 20, 2024 by Wellsyboy
David Wien Posted February 20, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2024 The price is suspiciously low. I dont trust Amazon. There are a lot of knock-offs of Peak Design products sold by companies with strange names. I complained about one, and Amazon wrote back and said that they couldnt prove that it was not legitimate, and would therefore take no action. egrossman Posted February 20, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted February 20, 2024 I would have thought it's a fake but for them to also fake a holographic watermark for such a low volume product makes no sense to me. jwhitehead Posted February 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2024 I ordered the silver version on Amazon, also with a seller listed as Motoqueen. It also has the Leica branding on it. I don't know if this is a knockoff or what, but I will say this is a perfect fit on my Q3. It feels well made, the buttons work very smoothly, and it feels worthy of the camera to me.
egrossman Posted February 20, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted February 20, 2024 It looks exactly the same as the OEM Leica thumb rest. I bought it expecting it to be an unbranded thumb support.

jimtong Posted February 24, 2024 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2024 (edited) These are China copy. I bought one from Taobao and aware that it is not original but work great on my Q2. Edited February 24, 2024 by jimtong

This is what arrived. Checked out your link. What is displayed, in Amazon, is not what you get. In Amazon, it shows this generic looking thumb support (no branding). What you get is the product you pictured. Leica brand stamped/engraved. Even the packaging seems to identical to Leica's product and material used seems to be the same (aluminum/aluminium). Including part numbers. I received mine on Friday, and so far it is working as advertised. Go figure. Edited February 24, 2024 by coleica
David Wien Posted February 25, 2024 Share #10 Posted February 25, 2024 When I click on the link above, I dont see any thumb supports that look like the Leica one. But I do see a link to this Chinese knock off of the peak design quick release adaptors. There are many copies of this same design on Amazon, and I worry that p d will suffer. It should be pointed out that the pd version has three coaxial threads that strengthen the cords and, by their different colours, advertise any wear. These are not mentioned on the Chinese ads and are probably one reason for the low price. The knock offs off the Leica thumb support are even dishonestly stamped with the same information as genune ones, and Amazon doesnt seem to police this piracy, but takes its cut, whatever gets sold. The original manufacturer deserves protection for the design and development effort and costs it incurs. Buying cheap copies damages innovation by companies like peak design. Apologies for temporarily going off topic (I am just a customer of peak design as are many here), but this is an important and regrettable feature of Amazon that deserves wider publicity. egrossman Posted February 26, 2024 Author Share #11 Posted February 26, 2024 Again I bought it not knowing it had the Leica branding on it from Amazon (the sales pic doesn't have the branding). It fits the camera like a glove. There is no wobble in the hotshoe either.
Dannyred Posted February 28, 2024 Share #12 Posted February 28, 2024 I just received my MotoQueen thumb rest for the q3 - same experience and comments as previous posters. While not showing Leica branding on the Amazon page, I received a counterfeit knockoff of the genuine Leica grip. It includes trademarked logos and the engraved Leica Camera & Wetzlar Germany signature on the product. I'm not a lawyer, but this is illegal. The burden of policing falls on Leica to pursue the manufacturer, seller, and Amazon. The Thumb Grip seems to be well made. It fits snuggly to the camera, and playing with it at home - mounted on the camera - suggests it works perfectly. I was prepared to pay for a genuine Leica grip, but there is no indication when it will be available (in black). So, while I wouldn't say I like aiding an entity ripping off Leica, the 100.00 price tag (still not cheap) is a much better deal than the 245 Leica OEM version. One caution - included in the literature that comes with the grip - is a warning not to hold the camera solely via the grip! Should we as a group - report this seller to Leica? Dannyred Posted February 28, 2024 Share #13 Posted February 28, 2024 btw - i found a thread (see link below Thumb grip...at last a good one! relating to this grip (actually for the q2) which is much less expensive - i have not (and will not) tried it but if anyone is interested - you can check it out here (this is for the q3. https://www.amazon.com/Thumbs-Premium-Anodized-Aluminium-Silicone/dp/B0CLY1HSTK/ref=sr_1_1?crid=4WXRS2N1KVEL&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Si2ygsNs-aPXJacBppqAY8Sbd_BF77kfoIGDvt2VxYAnFNzK6VU5O65TaJyFZc9yy6Bv6P7d7wwA0YiFWMm6Aio0WrznvWblsTr6u72Na-kIYg5VDaVG6ySby_G7pT23.cRMpEDDRVKzGPE_8Sg6SjGku4pEzZ9LQDvvs7V7Z6sk&dib_tag=se&keywords=JJC%2Bbrand%2BTA-Q3&qid=1709164357&sprefix=jjc%2Bbrand%2Bta-q3%2Caps%2C262&sr=8-1&th=
MikeD70 Posted February 29, 2024 Share #14 Posted February 29, 2024 They didn't try to fool anyone, Brand-MOTOQUEEN listed a couple of times in the description. As long as it works. I wonder about the fact that they are branding it as leica though.
Dannyred Posted February 29, 2024 Share #15 Posted February 29, 2024 extract via AI / google re trademark infringement - lots of other posts relating to this issue. "In the United States, trademark infringement is a civil offense that occurs when a company uses a trademark without the owner's permission. Trademark infringement can occur when a company uses a similar or identical mark on similar products or services in the same industry. For example, an online retailer might use a name, logo, or design similar to Apple's to make consumers think they are buying products directly from Apple" btw - it seems to work flawlessly -
David Wien Posted February 29, 2024 Share #16 Posted February 29, 2024 I think a lot more Q3 owners would spring for the official Leica thumb support if it were actually available to purchase! David

huwm Posted February 29, 2024 Share #18 Posted February 29, 2024 I actually bought my ´knock off’ as an experiment. Having used my Q2 for years without i fell for all the ‘must have’ recommendations on here but didn’t want to commit to Leica cost to say nothing of non availability. I was surprised to receive what appears to me to be an actual Leica unit and would suggest Leica chase them down or improve their supply issues or both. It’s been great for winter glove wearing weather but will be removed in the spring along with my aliexpress half case as I much prefer the camera ‘naked’
Dannyred Posted February 29, 2024 Share #19 Posted February 29, 2024 The Leica US site states ”This product is currently on back-order or out of stock. cookedart Posted March 3, 2024 Share #20 Posted March 3, 2024 Curious about two things on the thumb support (either the Amazon or official): - is the Fn2 button easier to find by feel than the native button? I find the native button is pretty low profile so it's hard to find by touch. - does it get in the way of the exposure compensation dial? I'm sure your thumb can navigate around it but just wondering if it's a nuisance.
