mrkennethtong Posted December 15, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Manager of Leica kept praising Leica Looks, but surely you can simply make it look the same in Lightroom?!
Advertisement Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Hi mrkennethtong, Take a look here Why Leica Looks?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
espelt Posted December 15, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 15, 2023 Clear. If you can do it and enjoy spending hours in front of the computer - it's definitely possible. The AI takes care of the rest. In fact, you no longer need a camera at all. But where's the fun?
David Wien Posted December 15, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 15, 2023 BUt the question is really "Why are Leica Looks desirable/worth using? What do you miss without them? David
pcgarner Posted December 15, 2023 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2023 In Japan one can buy a Leitz phone camera. Japan only. It touts the "Leica Look." Three lens. I couldn't find the price. :-)
mrkennethtong Posted December 15, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted December 15, 2023 So I presume everyone here is shooting with Leica Look Presets? Q3.
mrkennethtong Posted December 15, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted December 15, 2023 In case I wasn’t clear I meant the setting on the Camera.
Al Brown Posted December 15, 2023 Share #7 Posted December 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nobody is mentioning the Leica look in terms of settings. Leica look is supposed to be the combo of lens microcontrast, 3D pop, separation, glow, rendering and overall feel you get when shooting with Leica lenses. Study this thread to understand more.

This is one Q3 user that hasn't downloaded these presets and definitely won't be doing so. It isn't compulsory 😂
earleygallery Posted December 15, 2023 Share #10 Posted December 15, 2023 Like a Leica version of Instagram filters?

Le Chef Posted December 15, 2023 Share #13 Posted December 15, 2023 If you are happy processing your images in CR1 or Lightroom you probably have no need of Leica Looks - you’re simply already doing this in those programs using RAW as your start point. If you only shoot jpg then they likely have some value in saving you time by doing the work for you. Any store employee is likely to have been “encouraged” to use Looks whether they want to or not. Anbaric Posted December 15, 2023 Share #14 Posted December 15, 2023 'LEICA CNT'? That seems a bit harsh.
adrianh Posted December 15, 2023 Share #15 Posted December 15, 2023 Fuji has the Film Simulations and those are pretty popular. Leica has tried to implement something similar, at a very small scale for the moment, but they could extend the looks any time. Right now, being only a Q3 feature, they are neither very wide spread nor very popular with the typical Leica user. So what? Use it or leave the setting untouched. Al Brown Posted December 15, 2023 Share #16 Posted December 15, 2023 Those are just some clever marketing tools scamming you into thinking they are "Leica looks". Do not give in 😄... The ubiquitous Leica look is SO.MUCH.MORE. than cheapo presets for jpegs.

Patrick NL Posted December 16, 2023 Share #19 Posted December 16, 2023 I tried them shooting DNG plus JPG so I could compare them to the normal image. They are not for me. I do not see the appeal. Not pleasing to my eyes, I also shoot Fujifilm X. There is does work. With my Q3 only the black and white is worth considering to me.
mrkennethtong Posted December 16, 2023 Author Share #20 Posted December 16, 2023 Thank you all for the clarification. My fourth day owning the Q3. Thing literally is mind-blowing for Street Photography at night.
