Which thumb rest?

David

It's the Leica one in black. Had the LIMs one been available at the time, I might have considered that one for half the price. As expected, the Leica thumbrest is expensive. But it's pretty much perfect. It was hard to find any thumb rest at the time and my local Leica store had one in stock so I swooped on it.

To my knowledge, the Leica version is the only one with the ribs and the buttons. The buttons on the thumb rest are a bit easier to use than directly on the camera. The ribs make it feel secure, especially when pulling out of a bag/case.  I wouldn't change anything on the Leica thumb support. From an aesthetic perspective I'm not crazy about the gold buttons on the LIMs version but people seem to like it.

It's pricey, but the Leica version is very well designed.

I don't know if they are still hard to get but when I checked recently, The Pixel Connection had the black one in stock. I highly recommend it. I've gotten a lot of gear from Pixel Connection and they are great to deal with. I work with Matt there. Sadly I don't use that really nice LIMs case at all but I love the way my Q3 handles with the thumb support and without the bulk of a case.

Happy shooting,

Joel

Holster is not that bad...

@mrkennethtong You're all over the board on this case thing. Everready case, pouch, holster, ....Just buy something and try it. If you're not buying Leica brand you won't be out a lot of money if you don't like it. Based on prices you're mentioning, buy all of them and see what you like. Don't know about Asia but many stores in North America have liberal return policies. Best of luck.

The size may be specified med or large, but actual size are all the same.
it uses hard leather, much more protective than soft leather.
Perfect size for Qx, you may add something like flash or Leica table pod to extra battery etc. Still large enough.

it also comes with different color to suite different gender.

Received the Pouch thing. Fantastic Fit. Aesthetically pleasing too, will wait till the Foamy thing arrives too and it will be adequate enough protection for carry on.

Just an FYI - If anyone has both an SL/SL2/SL2-S and a Q body, the Oberwerth small SL bag can fit the SL with one APO Summicron-SL lens attached and the Q/Q2/Q3 together.  The SL needs to go in on it's side, the fabric divider placed over it and the Q can sit with the lens facing down on the lens side of the SL.  Looking at the bag you would think there's no way to get both cameras in there.  Nice looking bag, as well.

For those that may have the opportunity:

Quite a few years ago now, but I remember that Yodobashi ( in Shinjuku Tokyo ) had a table with lots of padded dividers and boxes that you could mix and match to make a custom size insert for just about any bag. It was a great idea! Haven't been to Tokyo since before covid but it was upstairs in the pro camera building--third floor or so I think.

Finally bought a PDC sling 3L. As reported by some, it’s very tight but it works nicely for certain occasions. The bag is almost invisible when worn over a shirt/ jacket in black (in my case). I’m a bit concerned about a possible wear/ damage to the eye piece over multiple ins and outs.

A color checker and micro fiber cloth in the front packet.

A Q3, light meter ( I might ditch it as the histogram is all I need) and spare battery.

a comparison with my trusted A&A bag which is a bit too large on certain occasions.

I have found the 6L too small much of the time, and got a 10L, which has space for my iPad too.

How do others cope with the problem of reading the serial number for registration? I found it an enormous challenge both times! 😀

David

I haven’t got there yet. I think you scared crap out of me 😂

+1 for Arte di Mano cases.

For my M11 I have the half case in Swift black leather and black stitching with advanced battery door and normal (not Aventino) grip. I use a tripod quite often so I prefer a case that retains a tripod mount on the bottom  - I think you can get that with their Q3 cases. Their products are superb and well suited to the camera. I’d get a similar one for my Q2 but I already have the Lim’s grip and it’s fine - and I can’t afford another AdM case at the moment. I’d certainly get one for any other camera I own in future.
