If you size your vertical images to 875 pixels on the long side, we'll be able to see the entire image without having to scroll or click on it.

Thanks.

On my big screen here this photographs looks really 3 dimensional. Great.

You are inspiring me to look at my Moab area shots with B&W in mind.  These are really quite nice.

I've sometimes wondered about this when images are bigger than the screen. But the instructions for posting in the various photo forums always say the same thing:

"Reduce the size to 2480 pixels on the longest side. (smaller sizes can be set, but are not recommended)"

The 875 pixels recommendation would seem to be a huge change from the instructions. When I follow the forum recommendation, the shortest side comes out in the range of 1800 pixels.

I would appreciate any enlightenment you have on this issue.

   Thanks

The 2480 pixel recommendation is only for horizontal format images. 875 pixels is the recommendation for the height on vertical format images. Try it out and you'll find it works fine.

Cheers, Brent

**I've just PM'd Jaap (who wrote the sizing instructions) and asked him to address this and correct his instructions. Sizing a vertical image at 2480 pixels on the long side results in a post that can't be properly viewed.

Using the image that I left my comment on, check these out on a large monitor (as opposed to a phone screen). The first one is the original sizing at 2184 pixels on the vertical side). The second one is resized to 875 pixels on the vertical side.

Frequently, I just tap on an image, that may be too large for my screen and it automatically fills it and give better resolution. Am I addressing the problem under discussion?

It took five years...  I've amended this for the photo forum. Let's see if this comes up again  earlier than the next five years before I start wasting a lot of time doing so for the rest of the forum. For the record: 2480 is a MAXIMUM size, not a recommended one.

You're correct. Tapping the image to get the higher res version does make the size of a vertical image confirm to the monitor. That's certainly an option, but when viewing a lot of images in rapid succession some people don't like to slow down the process long enough to do that for each vertical.

Members are free, of course, to post whatever pixel dimension they choose, as long as the image is within the Kb limits. My sizing suggestion was made in an attempt to be helpful, not to dictate what others do.

Apologies to Jaap for wasting his time.

Inspired by Ivan, I went looking for some Arches shots from way back to see if any might look good in B&W.  I did not have many taken with Leica equipment, but these two looked pretty good.  Park Avenue.  Thought the camera was also fitting for B&W treatment.

Both with Nikon camera but Leica 35-70/4 R lens.
