I could use a little help here. I received my 21/2 APO late this afternoon and took a couple test shots before it got too dark. Going through some of the files, several jumped out at me. I'm seeing what looks like excessive green/magenta colour fringing in the sail boat rigging in this example. It is observable noticeable at 100% magnification from the original DNG fie and very obvious at 200%.  First is the full size image, the second is a cropped section for illustration. Of course, these are reduced jpegs but the effect should be clearly visible.  I have taken pictures of this these boats at different times using a number of different lenses  and have not observed this, or at least not to this extent.

High winds and heavy rains are expected the next couple of days making it difficult to do further outdoor tests, but i plan on doing a side by side comparison with the sigma 20/2 once conditions permit. I have seem some mild magenta fringing with the Sigma but not like this.

Looks like moire to my eyes. I get moire on my M11 files in certain circumstances (for example when I’m photographing a landscape in the Alps it’s typically moraine, which is the rock debris next to a glacier, that often seems to be susceptible to generating moire’s multi-color mess in parts of the image). Stuart’s advice a few months ago on a different thread re using the Enhance raw conversion in Adobe was very helpful and has helped clear up a lot of the problem. Other than that, to not have moire at all, i have found the high resolution mode on the SL2 worked well for me, or probably even easier just go up in megapixels (eg, compared to the M11, I tend to rarely see moire of the same glacier scenes when using my 100mp GFX). Going up in megapixels has benefits far beyond resolution imho, and hopefully whatever comes from an SL3 will help lessen moire. And finally, a Monochrom sensor would also give perhaps the most authentic image in terms of having no moire due to the benefit of not having a color filter array, but clearly won’t be useful with an SL 21mm lens!

Thanks @frame-it, @helged and @Jon Warwick. I think you guys are correct. It never occurred to me that this could be moire. Taking a 2nd look, most of what I am seeing is likely moire, but I will need to undertake some additional testing. This lens is definitely capable of tremendous detail and clarity. I do not have Photoshop, and haven't figured out yet how to use Affinity Photo to remove moire. I tried using FFT denoise filter as suggested but couldn't get it to work. If going to a higher res sensor helps, then I might actually be interested in an SL3!

i don't think affinity has a moire reduction/removal tool, probably have mask and blur then add noise

If you have Affinity v2, you might try this method:

I've tried it without much success but it might just take more time and practice.

However,I am getting some reasonable (and easy) results using the chromatic tools in RawPower.

Photoshop and Lightroom are ten dollars a month...I know subscriptions suck, but it certainly would be cheaper than buying a new camera, especially when the problem is not the camera but the raw conversion.

Love the 21.  Great lens.  Matching color to other APO's.  Very Sharp.  Some initial images.  More info on each on my adventures thread.

I am embarrassed to say that while I have had my SL21mm lens for several weeks, I just opened the box tonight...I have been beyond busy with work, year-end financials and pushing to finalize house plans so I could submit to city for permits before end of year.

Anyway, wanted to use it tomorrow to take shots for a Robb Report ad we are running and my first test shots inside tonight and outside of street lights are impressive. Hopefully will get some excellent shots tomorrow that are worthy of a full page ad!

So far my only 'nit' is this is the first Leica SL lens I have bought that did not include a soft case-nothing but a clear plastic bag...

Here are some more examples all with APO-SL 21mm and different SL bodies

Mine came with a soft case. After some initial concerns, I’m really enjoying this lens.

Soft case was included for me as well (remaining in the box, but nevertheless part of the 'package').

I'm very tempted to get this lens but curiously how much does it distort at the edges? It looks like there's some inevitable stretching going on with the guy on the left. How pronounced is this in your experience with the 21?
