... the question is what's with lenses under 28mm: Is there a "Spiegelsucher (mirror viewfinder)" renaisance? That wold be consequent. Ididn't read anything about the Visoflex ... but it's only the quickstart manual ...

It's actually mentioned in the Quick Start Guide though ... Interfaces

Why not brass and black paint? I would buy immediately!

Brass and black paint will be saved for a final halo model before the introduction of the M12.  Will probably be a limited edition, like M10R BP, whereas no mention of limited numbers for the M11D.

Black paint looks nice, but it's only cosmetic and it's just the same working camera underneath.

What is the point to move the ISO dial to the black of the camera and make left corner of the camera being rounded ?

I would prefer to keep ISO dial in its original place and the wheel on camera back to be exposure compensation.

I think the reason for the ISO dial on the back, might be that it is larger and allows a wider range of ISO selection from the manual dial. It looks like it will go up to 50000 rather than just 6400.

Well done Leica! I am very happy, as the M11-D has turned out almost exactly as I wished for in my January 2023 article: https://www.macfilos.com/2023/01/27/leica-m-d-and-my-journey-into-nature-with-this-simplest-of-digital-camera/

The ISO dial on the back is so much more tactile and easy to use (with two thumbs) than the standard M10/M11 repurposed rewind one. It's also as others have pointed out, very suited to an -D as it gives more options, being a bigger dial. Plus, unlike the M-D with its third stop markings, this looks like it will have half-stop markings, making it compatible with the shutter speed dial and most lenses ... ie two clicks up on the iso and two click down on the speed or aperture and you have the same exposure,  but the the faster shutter speed you need (or whatever)  so you can do more by feel and not have to stop and look at your controls ....

Just to recap the basics -- it's like any M, just expose, focus and shoot.

If you want exposure comp, it is immediately there on the thumbwheel, indicated with flashing dot in VF

If you set to ISO-M then that is on the wheel and new for the M11-D is that ISO will be displayed in the viewfinder -- hooray! Press the thumbwheel to toggle between ISO and exposure comp.

Want to change some other parameter? Then press the thumbwheel for 12s to activate Fotos.

Shots remaining and battery remaining can be seen in the VF by pressing the top plate button.

That's it!

OK, there's a few other occasional settings like  the time and date etc is an arcane sequence of button presses that you'll want to folllow the manual for, but can probably do in Fotos if that scares you.

But fundamentally Leica have done a superb job here of keeping the interface simple, minimal and functional.

I also applaud Leica as it looks like you could own this camera without ever having to use Fotos or WiFi, which does suit me personally but I think is also an indication of a well-thought-through product ...

The essence of photography indeed ... 😃

Someone has to say it: no charger in the box anymore...

Surely this is simply a product of USB-C charging.  Times change . . . I can remember when the removal of a computer's floppy disc slot was an unthinkable move; then, even more unthinkable, the CD drive disappeared.  How would we load programs?!?  Then USB-A disappeared.  How would we connect external devices?!?  No HDMI port on the laptop.  How would we connect a monitor?!?

Times change and it's good to see Leica moving with the times.

Imho it is just early compliance with EU directive 2022/2380...

In PDF form this [simple] directive is 14 pages and nearly 7,000 words.  I voted against Brexit but I guess this is an example of why the majority didn't 😂

The Leica M11-D looks exactly as I was hoping. It's just like the M-D 262 but modernized. No gimmicks, just pure photography. Awesome.

Also USB-C charging is a great addition. No need to bring the charger on long trips anymore.

As an aside - please remember the ~25 of us here are probably the only ones who care and look forward to the M-D line lol. Niche within a niche

I bet it would be nice in brass, but it seems it's aluminium

I like what I see, I love the iso dial on the back of the camera it looks great, yet I would rather have the on/off on the shutter speed dial, juts like on my Leica MP analog cameras.

Instead of B and A mode on the shutter release, change the A for "Off"  and B for "A/B" to be set in the Leica Fotos App when used as either A for aperture priority or B for bulb for long exposure. I never use either of these modes anyways with an M camera. As a matter of fact that would be great for all digital M if only to have an integrated thumb rest for people who use a Visoflex with their M cameras... planting seeds, planting seeds.

I love the M10-D for its integrated thumb rest, I can use a 24 or a 21mm optical viewfinder with my 24 and 21mm lux lenses or a flash while still retaining a thumb rest, to me that's very practical.

I'll be keeping my M10-D for its integrated thumb rest, my M iso is set to 10,000, that's as high as I ever go with an M10 or with an M11, not need to have higher iso settings but I see the logic behind it. I do prefer the iso dial of the MD-262 on the back of the camera, compared to the iso dial on the M10-D it is much better looking, and I find that a better looking camera is always more enjoyable to use.

What a fab camera, and hats off to Leica for being bold enough to continue with this line.

I do think the loss of the ISO dial on the top misses a trick just slightly, as there are surely one or two functions that even pared back quasi-film shooters might want: e.g. a white balance dial?  I'm not a fan of auto-anything on cameras tbh, and am thinking that of all the many external dials and buttons I would use on e.g. my Nikon DSLR white balance would be the one to have.  It's just slightly too minimalist for me, esp as it's jam-packed with all the normal M11 features.

By the way, if anyone was wondering how I originally found the Quick Start Guide, I literally just did this:

thank you, @kevinjoe, very informative.  a 'start' guide, although a 38MB beast of a file, admittedly written in some 10 languages (no magyar 😀 ).

next, now it's all about the m11d's announcement date, and then the other, even more relevant date when my local LeicaBoutique actually begins selling them over the counter !
