Porsche 911 . . . somewhat archaic . . . not the most advanced

🤣 you have obviously never owned a Porsche 911, but then the world is full of people who have opinions based on nothing.

Of course, I could change my opinion and then we would both be wrong . . .

1960s Air-cooled tech carried over into mid 1990s...996 rear main seal debacle still found in 997...I have been through all this. It is an iconic car, but "the best"? Surely not.

If you want to go retro, and since we are on the M11D thread that would seem appropriate, try this:

It would be my choice over anything automotive, but it is a little pricy even by Leica standards 😳

I think the electric Porsche comes closest to an M11-D: Modern on the inside, wrapped in a classic design.

Yes, you’re right.  I swapped my 911 for a Taycan and wouldn’t go back.  Norway has been so progressive in the move to electric, despite the fact that batteries are less efficient in colder climates.  We could all learn from Norway.

Now, back on topic, should I swap my M10R Black Paint for M11D?  Just have to get over the fact that the finish is only cosmetic!

In before other rumor sites pick this up. M11-D being announced first and Q3 43 after.

Personally I don't have a reason to upgrade to this over the M10-D.

Weird that they persist with the useless thumb dial. Should just remove it to make things sleeker. At least they managed to get rid of the front function button.

autsch, that hurts...!

CORRECTION : i actually misread your post, @sebben, sorry about that !  i thought you speak about the thumb *rest* - not the thumb dial.  but i agree with you, what's the purpose of that thumb dial ?  i never ever use it on my m10d.  time/date i synchronize via that clunky fotos app.

You mean that dial has no function?

I think you can use it to set the date and time. (Easier done in app)

Set magnification level if you use the EVF (I don't use the EVF).

You can also use it to set the magnification level into the live view if you are previewing via wifi and the app.

For me these are such rare use cases that its doesn't justify having a dedicated lump and dial on the camera.

than better a somewhat lifeless but pretty useful thumb rest, instead of that lumpy dial, right ?

Will be interesting to see how the user interface works - and how the connection to phone app works too.

Personally, would rather Leica addressed M11 platform glitches and their customer service turnaround times.  Those 2 things are what stop ne buying into the M system right now.

The thumb dial is for EV correction.... I use it continually on my Ms.

Essential function.  IMHO it ought to be made a wheel with visible settings like on the Sony A7 series.

EV correction on the M10D is done on the back dial.
