I begin to wonder what features or settings of regular M11 will be taken away giving no LCD no more three buttons and four-direction buttons on camera back?

Will option of perspective control to be taken away as there is no LV anymore( no screen and no LV button)?

Will using Fotos App be the only way to adjust all different settings with M11-D (i.e.tell the camera focal length of an non-6-bit-coded lens being mounted on to camera)?

No, just that the camera won’t meter the exposure so essentially you’re shooting in manual mode without the camera giving you feedback as to whether you’re over / under exposed. With an EVF it’s not an issue, what you see is what you get. With the range finder you’re relying on sunny-16 or an external meter.

And there would be no such thing as “aperture priority” or “exposure compensation” which I don’t use anyway. I would have loved it!

Here are no settings to adjust. You can’t select non-coded lenses at the moment, and if Leica stops updating firmware, new lenses won’t be detected either (my 35 APO Summicron isn’t identified in the M9 Monochrom firmware).  Somehow, Leica hasn’t thought a lot of the digital environment through.

I understand your expectation of firmware updates which I think is also important.

I dust off M9 this morning to go out for breakfast with my wife and snap a few pictures.  M9 is a much simple camera without much options or features users can adjust in comparison to latest M11 and it bring me back the feeling of shooting film ( slow speed of everything and limited usable ISO ) ⋯⋯ moreover I wish there is option to choose the resolution in M11-D as I don’t really need 60MP ( not limited in using shutter speed by 5x of focal length ).

Wish you all have a happy Sunday.

Agree. The M ‘should’ be a simple camera.
manual focus, simple centre weighted off the curtain metering with one physical control for EV in AE. One control for ISO.
EVF is a useful secondary add on for occasional VERY rare uses. So needs a button to cycle it on/off (LV) and a button for menu and one for image view. The D version should be without the screen and buttons obviously. I always use my M cameras in a very simple way like this, anything more and it’s not true to the Messucher spirit….

I do find it slightly amusing that this thread continues to discuss what people want from the M11D when the camera is already made and the specifications have been published.  It has triple resolution; it has wi-fi connectivity; it has USB mode PTP; it has 256 GB of internal memory plus SD card, so the same as M11P; etc, etc.

The camera is just waiting for a reliable firmware update, then it will hit the shelves.  Leica is not going to manufacture a super simple screen less camera with all the mod-cons removed.

Exactly, and was missing on the M10-D. I sent an email to Leica about this after about five minutes of use, referencing the unused button on the top plate, and got a short "thank you for your interesting suggestion" reply.

To turn it off, you just remove it.

I don’t think I’ve ever used the OVF with the EVF attached on top.  I’m an irregular user of the EVF, so I put it on when I need it, then take it off again pretty much immediately.  There is the button on the side of the EVF, though I’ve never pushed it when it’s on the M10-D.

Indeed, but I liked having the EVF attached to glance at for framing (wide angle lenses and eyeglasses). I found it annoying to have to slide it off to get out of Live View mode. And of course it drained the battery. In the end I stopped using the EVF, which is of course really how it should have been.

Hi gotium,
Does EVF turn off by itself automatically if the camera run into sleep mode? Thanks

If I remember correctly, yes. BUT it’s really easy to leave the on/off switch on Wifi by accident and then there IS NO SLEEP MODE. Which was problematic for me.

rumor says end of september !

i will be first in line at our local Leica boutique...

Depends on cost  and detailed specs for me.

I like the idea but it does have a few obvious flaws.

For example, in a normal M11 if you fill the SD, you get a warning on the screen. How would you get that warning on one that has no screen?

If they allow menu access via the optional EVF, which I think I read is not the case with the M10-D, then it would be a much more useful camera.

We shall see!

i never had filled the current SD card in my M10-D to its end (Sandisk Extreme 90MB/s 32GB, used for 3-4 years) with 754 DNGs as i just keep emptying it kind of daily and hence never saw a related LED message in the OVF - although i imagine it would say something like "SD", just like for the other times an SD card makes trouble.

i don't own any EVF.

The cost is what it is.  It's a Leica, it won't be cheap!

Specs were published a few months ago, then the file "disappeared".  That file is too large to upload but here are a couple of pages, which summarise the key points.  Nothing unexpected.
