No longer limitation for lenses with higher current consumption.”……. What does this actually mean, to which lenses does it refer?

Thanks for any info.

This was an issue of the camera not allowing to shoot 4K video and Image burst when the battery was below 50%

Some lenses that did use more power did cause this too, mostly the Sigma-21 EF to L adapter, and some other Sigma lenses.

The new battery type also lasts longer...

"Dedicated to select Leica Q and SL-Series cameras, the BP-SCL6 is an 8.4V, 2200mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery offering 18% more power than the previous generation. Its unique design is inserted directly into the base of the camera and it can be charged via the BC-SCL4 Charger."

Can someone remind me how to use Leicafotos to do this update?  I used it successfully in the past but couldn't achieve success this time and used a card update.

You have to choose update firmware on the Fotos app before you tether it to the camera.  The update will go smoothly once the firmware is installed by Fotos.

How does one choose that in the Fotos app? I don't see a menu item for it, and the release notes contain f/a about updating via the Fotos app.

When you initially open the Fotos app and before you connect it to the camera, you will see an alert that an update is available.  Click on that alert to begin the process.

So far, I've not seen the Leica Fotos app firmware update notification yet in my region. Has anyone seen the 5.2.0 firmware update on their Fotos app today? *I know it is available to download from the website, but I'm waiting for it to show up on the Fotos app.

I didn't have any sort of update notification in the Leica Fotos app either.

And I was desperately looking for an update possibility in the app, as my SL2-S told me it couldn't find any firmware file on my SD card (the newest I have and always use in this camera).

The update only worked when I tried a different SD card. Very odd.

Good news you managed to get it sorted regardless. Just curious was your first SD card freshly formatted in the SL2-S camera before attempting to copy the firmware update file to the SD card's root directory?

Mine only worked when I took out the second sd card, something I sort of knew but had forgotten

Neither card was freshly formatted, no.

Yeah I saw that in the release notes. Took the 2nd card out before trying, but didn't help with recognizing the firmware file on the 1st attempt.

The update notification looks like this:

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

Before doing anything, make sure to save your User Profiles to SD-card and that the battery is fully charged. Next you can download the Update and only then connect your camera.

Update starts and you see this:

When completed, the camera asks to confirm Data and Time. Reload your User profiles from SD-card.

Takes about 10 minutes.

FWIW, when my SL2 didn't recognize the update file in the past it was because I didn't put the update file in the SD card's root directory. Easy enough to miss if not paying attention. Also one of the reasons Leica recommends to do a fresh format on the card before using for firmware update is probably so there is nothing else on the card that might interfere with the update process.

I've never run into update issues with the SL2 leaving both Slot 1 and 2 cards in the camera during the update. Maybe depends on the card types/brand or how many files are on the cards? But probably good idea to go with the recommendation to take the second card out anyway just to be safe.

Other than the cool factor, updating via the Leica Fotos app seems easier to me, but then again I use the Fotos app often so I am used to how that app works in general. But others seem to have issues with the Fotos app 🤷🏽‍♂️ Oh and there's the slightly frustrating issue of waiting for the Leica update to roll out to server in my region while many others have already downloaded from the Leica website.

Vis a vis updating via the Fotos app:  indeed, when I opened the app it told me there was an update available for the SL2  and clicking on that update began the process of the app connecting to the camera.  However, the first two times I tried, the app was not able to connect to the camera.  The third time it connected and the update process began.
