Maggie_O Posted November 12, 2007 Share #21 Posted November 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have no idea. Some shots are tripod, some are handheld, some are shot resting the camera on whatever I can find. To me, the Leica is all about the freedom to do whatever is needed for the shot. etrigan63 Posted November 12, 2007 Share #22 Posted November 12, 2007 99.5% handheld. I have one shot with a Novoflex tabletop tripod and one with my Manfrotto tripod. One shot I took by setting the M8 atop a dock piling. I guess that counts as a monopod.
sean_reid Posted November 12, 2007 Share #23 Posted November 12, 2007 I almost always use the M8 hand-held unless I'm making test pictures. Cheers, Sean

hjsesq Posted November 12, 2007 Share #28 Posted November 12, 2007 I'm with Carsten on this one. At 70 years old and with early stage Parkinsons's disease hand shake is a problem for me. The Leica table top tripod, used as a chest brace, clears almost all of my shake issues. Not pretty but it works. For landscape shots I just put the M8 on my Gitzo 1228 with an Arca Swiss compatible ball head (RRS B55) and all is well! The shot is everything.......how you look is meaningless! Woody Spedden Agree with Woody - considering what the alternative is - have been taking photographs for most of my 74 years and now with some tremor in the arm I use a tripod, or brace myself when I can, or use whatever other type of support may be available. If non, then turn up the ISO or shoot wide open or both. Better than sitting home and thinking about the shots I would like to be taking. After all these years, not worried about how I look - like Woody says - "The shot is everything.." Harris
JumpStart Posted November 12, 2007 Author Share #29 Posted November 12, 2007 Cool answers You see, what I thought was since the M8, and rangefinders in general take more time to shoot than the standard DSLR, I wondered if many were taking even more time to use a tripod. Making the focus even sharper, and more time to compose their shot. I so far have shot it hand held only, but I have been considering using a tripod more. Something light weight, and easy to carry. I also use a Trek-Tech monopod or walking stick from time to time, and Manfrotoo Monopod. Interesting answers so far. Keep them coming DBK
marknorton Posted November 12, 2007 Share #30 Posted November 12, 2007 I usually take a small table top tripod and ball head (Manfrotto, smaller than the Leica equivalent) along with me but the great majority of shots are taken without it.
arthurpreston Posted November 12, 2007 Share #31 Posted November 12, 2007 Since I do some stock photography as well as just fun stuff, I have to give two answers: For stock photography, I use a tripod 99.9% of the time; hand-held ONLY when absolutley necessary. The M8 just makes it even that much better/sharper when using a tripod. Nice thing is my tripod is light, and so is the camera. I also use a remote cable release. For fun stuff, hand-held a lot of the time, but given the results of using a tripod, I fell guilty not using one
arthurpreston Posted November 12, 2007 Share #32 Posted November 12, 2007 Oh, and never a monopod, whcih to me would feel like being drunk and using a tripod LOL
Woofer Posted November 12, 2007 Share #33 Posted November 12, 2007 Good on you Woody , more "power" to you. I'm about 90% hand held , but I do carry a carbon fiber Gitzo .. for waterfalls and very low light. Regards Leslie
sm23221 Posted November 12, 2007 Share #34 Posted November 12, 2007 I tossed my tripod out the window when I discovered I could handhold my M8 to about 1/8sec very successfully.
