Mark Harverson,   IMO, it would depend on the condition of the rest of the camera.  Most likely I wouldn't buy it because I want the camera to look as it did originally.  If I wanted the lettering removed, I would simply get a SL2-S.  Others might chime in with their opinions.  It will get down to personal taste and choice as well.  r/ Mark

My 601 is used however remains in perfect working order. “Excellent” condition suggest that the cameras/lenses are not used. What’s the point of owning them. It’s not a collectors camera. My M8 shutter broke within 50 shots. It had a low shutter count. The lack of use over the years probably raised the risk of failure. 
I had an issue with one of the big camera trading companies over the lettering. I can for less than £100.00 get it restored. This I might do as I’m selling to fund a new shutter on my M8. 
Anyway, I like the discreet look of my 601 when I’m out and about especially in London.

Then you should remove the red dot also  - I like the removed white lettering but potential buyers lower the price because the camera is not "original". The same with the red point on lenses. If he is missing it's harder to sell.

In my opinion, removing the letters or covering the logo like asking Porsche owners do the same to their cars.

I cover the Leica logo for one simple reason: it is less distractive for subjects when covering events. The last thing I want is someone trying to strike-up a conversation about Leica while I am trying to work. With the logo covered it just looks like "a generic camera."

It's just a small piece of electrical tape. I can remove it, swab the residue with isopropyl alcohol, and the camera will back to mint.

I do like the stealth look as opposed to the big White Leica logo! I think others do too. FWIW, I've seen two SL2 cameras that had the white logo removed sell pretty quickly.

Nope. In fact I did that to my SL2. The white Leica logo is oversized in my opinion.

Agreed with all on the over sizing of the lettering. Too much. Looks a little like a toy camera

As it is the easiest thing in the world to restore the lettering it does not make one whit of difference.

The reason behind my topic is that the trade in price I was offered dropped by £300.00 after I had sent the camera for assessment. It functions perfectly and yet the “missing” white lettering was the reason for the reduced offer. They were made aware of the removal prior to their online offer.
reminded me of the behaviour of We buy any car. Offer a fair price online then….

So spend ten minutes in whitening the lettering and send it in again.

The lack of white lettering appeals to me. I dislike most branding myself but understand that for many status product buyers it is important.

 

What is a good way to remove it?

 

I had considered filling over it with concentrated black artist watercolor which could be reconstituted and wiped out if resale were ever needed.

On my M8.2, I used a toothpick and it was easy to remove.

Not a bit - I would prefer it that way. I hate those big white letters on my SL2...

Can you give more details on how to do that?
PS. I have SL2 and thought about removing white painting, but was worried about sale value...But if it is that easy to paint it back I would go for it!

It has been described often on the forum. Matte white paint, paint in and wipe off the excess.

interesting that some people talk about selling and resale even before buying or just as they buy the camera, maybe they didn't even use it yet!
