The Q2 noise is a real issue for me. Subjectively speaking, my Q images look(ed) more organic. AF? Not a big deal for me. Weather sealing? Same.

25MP is I think the sweet spot for the kind of photos I take -- travel, street, portraiture.

Initially, I was all up for the tiltable screen but I'm not sure it gives you that much more leverage. I suspect it may end up being more of a nuisance or something you hardly ever use. A fully articulating screen would have been functionally better though aesthetically not in keeping with Leica's minimalist styling. It will be interesting to see what the Sony RX1R iii will look like. In design terms, Leica has just caught up with Sony's RX1R mark ii released in 2015.

The way forward is a Q4-S: longer battery life, amazing world-leading ISO performance at 25MP, and an attachable/tiltable EVF viewfinder for those difficult shots.

Thanks for the reply.  Yeah, I am very happy with my Q images.  The more I think about it, I have no reason to upgrade my Q. So, there you go.

I will say I might be tempted if they come out with a 35mm 1.4 Q. But even that I'd have to think about since I really like the 28mm focal length.

Q4 with interchangeable lens mount for M lenses for users prefer butter-smooth manual focus ( similar to current M-to-L adapter)

Introduce a lens adapter with built-in autofocus motors ( similar to Techart TZM-02) for users prefer face-eye auto focus.

With above new hardware, users can put whatever focal length of M lenses they prefer.

As a result Leica sales increase from M lenses and Q4 camera with lens adapter, users are happy with big smile.

The low light performance has to be notably better for me to consider an upgrade. I'm waiting this one out.

256Gb internal storage in addition to the SD

joystick

more refined implementation of the flip screen (I’m glad they added it)

Native 36Mp is enough, but keep improving the sensor dynamic range for higher ISO. I want to shoot at night at F4

35mm lens would be great, but I know it ain’t gonna happen

I would give up a stop in lens speed for compactness and weight savings.

@roma This is my wishlist as well, pretty much to a T.

wish list is simple : just make a Q with L-mount. Simple I never ask for a third gen 28mm Q. How many times Leica expect us to buy the same camera again and again ?

Just let us change the damn lens. Please also make a bunch of compact lenses. Sony G and GM line up is embarrassingly small with superb IQ

It would be fundamentally a different camera. The reason why the 28mm lens on the Q can be made so compact is partly because it uses a copal shutter instead of a focal plane shutter. The rear element is within a couple millimeter of the sensor which would not be possible for an L-mount camera. The lens design optics on the 28/1.7 has more in common with cellphone cameras than mirrorless interchangeable lens system cameras. This is contributes to what allows the lens to be so small (length wise) compared to a comparable 28mm of similar aperture on an interchangeable lens system like the SL.

See the highly aspherical rear elements below.

We all know that. But it was 8 years ago… something can be improved

By the way your diagram shows why Q3 AF is not top notch despite phase detect. The Q3 has to move two sets of lenses and on of them is a huge aspherical one.

I set up the Q3 for AF-C, 4 FPS, Human Detection - 1/2000th and auto aperture/ISO

Took the dogs for a walk and photographed my wife and various passersby whilst on the move, basically testing the setup for street..

It certainly seems like a step up from the Q2 - but there were still a fair few misses - so my wish list for the Q4 is faster AF and improved AF intelligence.

It has animal detection, it doesn't say animal eye af and it doesn't show any eye squares - but it seems to focus on the eyes.

see attached images, a quick test - when it focusses on the left chihuahua facing away from me it focussed on her eyes and not her butt :)

Because design and construction of the Q/Q2/Q3 is so different the task of adding lenses of with an ILM and different focal lengths is not easy. The shutter is built into the lens and the lens is built into the camera - there’s no mount - and the sensor position is optimized for that setup. To add 35 or 50 or 75 in a M or L mount would require re-engineering the whole camera from the ground up. And that’s before you add the complexities of OIS.

1. Tri-Elmar concept on the Q lens, 28, 35 and 50mm. Still f1.7

2. Real option to disable video, at first start-up let user choose between photo, video or combo and menu/camera functions are adopted accordingly

3. AF improved

4. Crop "zoom" so that full screen is used

5. Monochrome at launch

6. ISO wheel ala M60, why not on back side of flipscreen so you could have LCD-less mode with ISO wheel accesible(for me that would make it front side of flipscreen 🙂 )

7. Flipscreen flush with body

8. Intergrated remote flash trigger

What could make this camera better ?

I wish It had an internal memory of 256 gb

I wish it had a real backbutton AF so that if I am in MF I can push the button an it begins to hunt for sharpness.

I wish it could record longer than 120 sec in long exposure.

The M11 push/wheel is much nicer to operate than the wheel with push button of the q2/q3 so I would like something like that maybe even with a push button on top?

(does this get in the way of some minds? it would give us the toggle of iSO/exp Comp/ time set 1/3) for me this is allays the struggle when I am in manual with autoiso)

If there are accessories, then I would love to have something to go wider (wideangle adapter)  and closer (teleadapter) . I know most people don't like this. But traveling with just two adapter and the camera with some batteries and sd cards would make this camera like a superhero. And the best part. You don't have to but these tools if you dislike.

And I would love to see a Q4 40/50 mm with 1,4 Summilux.

Cheers Peter
