Hi,

inam taking a lot of images in the night on the street.

the AF is all over the place which lets me switch into manual and adjust the aperture down .

if we could set a limiter for the AF this would help so much.

And if you take Portraits and you could limit it to the subject tha twills also speed up the AF .

And in Astro photography I would not have to set the lens to infinity > which has not stop on the lens > so we would not be guessing if the inhibits is reached.

But I am cheerfully awaiting all the opposing opinions ☺️

I want it to have automatic toilet flush.

Microwave TV dinners.

Buy my stocks for me.

Have an APO zoom from 24 - 90 with constant f1.4.

Weigh less than 250g

Cost less than $1,000

Surely Leica can manage that!

And I thought the Q3 43 was already too much…

I'm sure they will smooth off the fitment of the tilt screen anyway, but please no built-in flash! I take as read there will be improvements in performance (better AF, OIS, faster start-up, better low light performance). Assuming they could be done without an increase in bulk, the new things I'd like are (in order of priority):

  • ISO dial, perhaps in the same place as on the M10/M11, to give total direct manual control of shooting.
  • Arca-Swiss QR fitting moulded into the base.
  • Industry standard flash protocol; Nikon, Canon, #####, it doesn't matter which, just so I don't get ripped off buying Leica branded or Leica-compatible stuff at high prices. I'd like this change to happen to ALL Leica cameras.
  • CFexpress B memory card instead of SD.
  • ND filter; I agree this would be nice to have.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a choice of colours and styles at launch? Get a Reporter version immediately rather than wait for a market-tickling release two years into the product cycle?

I should have added to my wish list: IP54 rating instead of IP52. IP57 would be nice, to cover immersion (dropping in a shallow stream, dipping from the side of a boat, photographer falling in the water). If the SL2/3 can do IP54 with interchangeable lenses, at least IP54 ought to be feasible for the fixed lens Q4.

in case the snark in this thread has ebbed for a minute, as one who has been thoroughly enjoying his Q343 since launch day, imho:

necessary:

  • AFc-eye/face detect that isn’t distracted when there are three or more people in frame
  • 2nd SD card or internal storage

nice to have:

  • internal ND

more than willing to give up:

  • personally, I feel that if video isn’t going to become state of the art, and if it saves development cost, just remove it. If others enjoy video on a Q3 I take this suggestion back, but I’ve never seen anyone use it except for test samples.

could be implemented now in Q3:

  • crop zoom option. as others have suggested, could be implemented with crop lines while zoom displays the next wider size. making this an option would leave function for those who prefer the nostalgia of M crop lines.
  • lens hood that allows use of filter in macro mode (Q343.) yes, I’ve already ordered a 3rd party replacement.

Video for me is valuable and I increasingly use it for short clips; I don't expect it to be state of the art. Advanced video doesn't necessarily mean better quality output, it mainly means better controls. The Q can continue to have good video output for simple scenarios while not providing all the facilities of a dedicated video camera. I stopped buying digital Ms when they ditched video in the M10. The Q is a modern versatile camera and video is a part of that IMO.

3 things I would like to see:

1. half-stops on the shutter dial

2. When unlocked from AF position, when you turn the focus ring to its hard stop (before locking to AF mode), it should be at infinity. I'm too used to M lenses that you do not need visual confirmation and just turning the ring to the end gets you at infinity. I was surprised this is not the case with the Q3(43), and actually ended up in a misfocused state

3. Joystick (!) - I think Leica is deliberately creating upgrade paths, so I hope to see this in the next iteration

I would go for a fully articulated screen - so you can use it in the vertical/portrait mode.

It would also mean that the screen can be folded in - stops chimping!

I'd actually love to see a reversion to the Q2 screen + buttons. After using an M11 for a couple of weeks I realized just how much I missed the non-articulating screen, button layout, and simpler design.

After a couple of years with the Q2, I expected to have to 'put up with' the tilt screen in the Q3 43, and that it would stay in its closed position. Now I find it useful, especially for shooting from above my head, either for the perspective or just to get above a crowd or other obstacle. I would miss it if it was removed.

I'll slowly read through this thread to see what everyone things are indispensable features for a Q4, but all I really want is for Leica to fix the damn firmware of the Q3 so it behaves as nicely as my Q2 did.  Is that too much to ask?

What issues are you having? I shoot with Q2 and Q3 and do not find any firmware disadvantages in Q3.

Yes, unless you explain what you mean.

I'm a former Q2 owner, and current Q3 43 owner. I have no problems with the firmware of either.

I agree. My Q3 is now 13 months old and I have had zero issues. I have however used decent SD cards and formatted them in-camera regularly in addition to reading the manual thoroughly.

There are no real issues with the Q3.

Also there are no new indespenible features needed in my view.
