Okay, time for a rather amazing story... In 2015, I decided to get a Q. I played an order on both the B&H and Adorama websites, knowing they were out of stock/backordered. About a week later, I called my local Raleigh NC camera store, (Southeastern Camera) and asked the owner to put me on his list for the Q. He said, "I doubt we'll see even one in the whole South for the rest of this year. We laughed about it, but I told me to keep me on the list. The next day, the very next day, he calls me and says, "Fran, you aren't going to believe this, but I got  Q today and the guy ahead of you changed his mind. Obviously, I bought it.

Jump to May 25 of this year. I ordered a Q3 (yet again) on the B&H site, knowing from all that I had heard, that it might be months before I got one. I didn't care as I had my Q and SL2. Well, this past Friday afternoon, July 21, I called my friend at the local store and again had myself put on their waiting list, figuring I might not get one there, but I might as well try. You might have guessed it... I got a call this morning that they got one in. This time it was a total of two delivery days that I had to wait. Amazing.

This past Saturday I got a call from Leica Boston that they had a Q3 for me. Went in later that day. I had put my name down on 5/26. I cancelled my B&H order (5/25, 2:24pm eastern) and received the refund (Apple Pay). Hope this helps fellow B&H backorder folks.

So far so good, though I did experience a couple of lock-ups when I took it out in the heat today. Seems to be a common problem in other threads, so hoping for a firmware fix. This is a very different camera from my Nikon D610, so it’s taking some getting used to, but when it works it’s superb.

Now if I could just find a black thumb support anywhere…

Congrats on the Q3.  As I mentioned in another thread many weeks ago, cameras are tools for me except for the ones I use for pleasure.  The Q3, for me, fits into that category.  The thumb grip was going to be essential for a stable hold on the cam, the same as it was on my Q2.  When I started looking for the black thumb grip none were available..... only brass and a few silver.  Went back to the store who got me the Q3 and put on the brass grip.  I was surprised at my reaction.  The first thought in my mind was, "that's cool!" "Wait!" "What the heck was I thinking!"  Never thought I would consider an essential accessory for a cam, a "fashion statement." But there I was, holding the Q3 with the grip AND the brass colored soft release button, then staring into the owner's face, him staring back at me incredulously...... and then we chuckled as I said, "ring it up!"

I've calling all over putting my name on waitlist. if anyone has any leads on places that may get some in soon, please let me know. I'm on the leica los angeles list, samy's and a few other random shops.

I used the Hotstock app in the app store to notify me when the X100V came in stock at Best Buy and got one, and I've just noticed they've added tracking for Q3 too! Fingers crossed it comes back in stock

Yeah I pay for the premium version of hotstock because it alerts much faster which is needed for something like this that flashes out of stock in seconds!! I got my X100v that way, and my friend missed out because he was just on the free version. hope that helps

First, and this is Leica tradition. The new toy is announced. Around the world "waiting lists" are established. If somewhere in a shop 100 Q3 are on the list and elsewhere just 3. Priority for shipment is given to the shop with 100. However, If you are on position 90. In general you should wait 6 months etc.

Hm, how did I manage to get mine? I am on the waiting list for over 2 months by now. Last week I got a bit impatient and I decided to go to ask. And guess what: Just by accident they got a batch of Q3 cameras that same day 🤥. I presume that they just sell to anyone who enters the store if they have one. If I had not asked I could probably wait for another few moths.

Maybe I am wrong. But I do not believe in coincidents.

I guess that in your case, you are right. Especially If you go to a store at the end of a quarter. Financial pressure is high to sale a maximum and to minimize stock.

The brass is really excellent looking. My only gripe is that I feel it adds to the conspicuousness of the camera in a way I’m not comfortable with in a camera that already has a “mugger alert red dot.” In a vacuum, though, the brass accessories are gorgeous. Glad you found them!

You are right.  However, I carry the Q3 in an understated shoulder bag and pull it out when I need to.  So far, so good.  Worst case scenario?  Both accessories are easily removable and I have a little gaffers tape for the Red Dot.

So excited!  Just received the extra Q3 battery I ordered from B&H!  Now I hope I can find it again when my camera gets delivered in 6 months! 🤣. (ordered June 29th)

This is why I’m waiting to order any extras. Batteries do degrade over time even when not in use, so I don’t want them sitting around for 6 months to a year, especially if I can’t use them lol.
