Wondering what, if any, advantages you might find in adding a Q2/3. I have an M11 and M11M with glass from 21 through 50 and as much as GAS affects me I cannot see any valid reason for a Q as well (perhaps beyond more rugged weather sealing). The lazier part of me might consider it as a grab and go point and shoot now and then but my whole reason for moving to M was the slowing down mentality that (for me) comes with the M system.
Curious as to what thoughts you guys might have…

Don’t have a 11, but a 10m plus q2. Really thinking to sell the q as I feel bad that either the m or q is left unused when taking the other… too much money and too little usage when having both…

@James1975 I have a M10 and M10M, so was in a similar situation.

I really wanted an EVF, weather sealing, IBIS, a 3-way tilt screen and back button AF, fast 28mm and 40mm lenses.

Nothing on the market gives this 😞

About a year ago I did buy two X100Vs ( base 35mm and WCL/TCL 28mm/50mm ) and I have rarely touch the Ms since, except when I knew in advance that  would I need to shoot in low light or with a longer lens and lower shutter lag.  This shows me that a robust compact camera pair is where I want to be; and confirming that absolutely the best image quality is not the top priority any more. The lack of IBIS is where the X100V hurts most.

The Q3 is getting very close to my ideal for 28mm ... now give me a 40mm and I will buy in.

Alternate title: “I have GAS… Please Give Me Rationalization”

Of course GAS requires no justification.  You either have it or not.

The Q is a non-starter for me. The M system, using RF, satisfies for 28/35/50; the SL2 supports complementary needs and shooting experience. No counseling or support group required.

Know thyself.

I tried a used Q once and then returned it. It’s actually larger than an M (though lighter) and it was all faff with menus, AF, etc. Working with an M was easier - for me. That said, it could be a great one camera option for those without M’s.

If all you want is just a lazy p&s for when you don't want to / cannot use the M, but at the same time are struggling to justify the cost of a Q for occasional use, why don't you have a look at either the Fuji X100V or the Ricoh GRIII / GRIIIx? The latter has also a really nice "snap focus" functionality that is great for zone focus shooters too.

I ave the GRiiix and love it. Perhaps I wasn't being clear though - not trying to justify anything. The cost isn't an issue either. I´m just curious to know if M users mix the Q system as well as the M or not... I wonder if it would indeed be occasional use or if it would simply sit there gathering dust.

I commonly take both the M11 and Q2 cameras with me.. Then I dont need to bring my 28mm lens :)  Seriously when I am hiking I wear both cameras with different length camera straps so no need to change lenses as often.

I recently went on a trip to the Dolomites, Italy. Had the Q and the m10m with 50lux. Great images, yet the m ones are so much easier to process and I’m struggling with the Q ones (my mistake as I don’t am yet able to get a nice b/w from a colour image).

At the other hand, changing lenses is not such a problem. One just shouldn’t take too many lenses with him…

The Q is great. So is the M. Having each, makes me each using 50% and that bothers me a lot… especially since I also have a SL.

Life was so much easier before Leica: I had a medium format kit and a contax g set. I want my life to be easy again 😇

Why would that be relevant for you?  If others use both a lot, will you then buy a Q?  Just curious, as each person follows his/her own logic. Since the Q was released 8 years ago, I can’t think of a gear combination, or rationale, or use case, that hasn’t been covered here.

I have the M11 + Q2. I originally got the Q2 for when I want to hike really light. I think if the Q3 had a zoom 28-70 or similar it would be a hard choice for me if that wasn’t my go to camera. My first grandchild was born 2mths ago and my Q2 has become the AF granddaughter cam❤️

I recently took both my M11 and my Q2 with me to a butterfly house.  Even though I have been using M cameras for more than 20 years, I could not get the camera focused fast enough to catch the butterflies.  I switched to the Q2 and set it on macro and got 30 in focus shots of the little buggers.  There is a place for both cameras...if you can afford them.

Not me. For me, the main advantage of an EVF is the possibility to use all kinds of slightly exotic lenses (like macro and enlarger lenses) without much hassle. Q cameras with their built-in lens obviously can't do that. I use a CL for this purpose. For everything else I have the M system.

i thought thats the reason why we're all here on LUF... 😅

That’s silly…many are here to ask what bag to buy for their M11 vs their M10; or which lens to take to Spain; or to show off the shape of their bokeh balls; or curious why their pics enlarged to 400% show some blur… and so on.  Many reasons to hang out here, including just for the entertainment.

I considered the Q3 instead of a 28mm lens, especially if the Q3 is similarly priced to the Q2. Having two camera bodies and not needing to switch lenses might be great for some shoots I do. But I did find that I want the Voigtlander Ultron II 28mm, which is awesome and way less expensive than a Leica lux and the Q2/3, so that's most likely the way I'm going.

One other reason I'd get the Q3 is for the weather sealing. When it rains hard enough, I'm too scared to bring my M11, even if it is insured.

I started with my Q2 before buying an M11. I thought I would trade the Q2 in but decided not to (much to my wallet’s dismay). I use both but the M11 comes out about 75% of the time. I won’t be selling the Q2 - I prefer it when hiking because of its weather sealing and the AF is helpful sometimes. The 28mm lens is excellent for street photography and replacing it with an M version would just lose me the advantages of the Q2. Basically, I like both cameras too much for my own good.

For the last 6ish years I carried a Q (Typ 116) and an M (Typ 262) together.  I kept a 75mm lens on the M.  Worked well for me, but I used my Q like an M, meaning manual focus almost all of the time.  Now that I have an M11 my Q is semi retired.  I'm keeping it for point-n-shoot duty around the house.  That does leave me with an unresolved question: Do I keep the M 262?  Jury is still out.  Right now I'm swapping lenses -- 35 and 75 -- on the M11.  I might go back to carrying two bodies.
