It certainly looks good and would seem to be jam-packed with new features. Glad there’s no silly zoom or longer focal lengths.

I wonder about the fleshy part of your right thumb activating the “Play” button and the robustness of the flippy-flappy screen.

I also wonder whether they have changed the battery from the Q2 or whether that stays the same. And is the hand grip the same or new?

And a pricing guess: $7,750.

don't want to sound like I am crapping on q3 with my 2nd neg post, but...

have a look at LH side and RH side:

because of the t-screen placement 'play+menu' buttons were moved to RH, so naturally one would want to use right hand (thumb or fingers) to operate...then how is the camera held?...with left hand, right?..is there a thumb rest on left?...how about thumb smears on the screen from holding with left hand...just saying

OMG!!! And now what? Are we Leica users expected to hold and operate the camera in the same way as Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Panasonic peasants users do? NO WAY!!!

There’s no way on earth this is going to be $7750. I highly doubt it will be over $6500. They will do the typical Leica thing and launch it at something like $6299, everybody will want it, and nobody will be able to get it, and by the time supply catches up with demand, it will have creeped up to $6500. Nobody is gonna buy this thing for almost 8k.

I can easily see them taking a higher margin and lower volume at the start, and then keeping pricing level and increasing volume in years 2 and 3. That pricing would align with the current M11 and likely pricing for the SL3.

Not sure if anyone watched the Red Dot Forum’s M11 Monochrome talk yesterday but there seems to be some subtle hints on when the Q3 could be announced.

First, jump to 5m50s in and they alluded to more stuff coming and Josh is biting his tongue trying to not spill the beans. Leading up to this point, David also mentioned that he was in Leica NJ around late March / early April (2 weeks before the LHSA LSI meeting).

Then at the end at 2h5m, they briefly mention about the next talk where David mentioned something about the ‘16th’ which is a very odd date to drop since they always do the talk on a Saturday. Neither May 16th, nor June 16th, is a Saturday. It’s possible that the embargo date for the Q3 is on the 16th (not sure which month). If the Q3 embargo date is the 16th day of the month, then it could be as early as May 16, or as late as June 16th.

I recall when the Q2 was announced, Leica had provided samples to a number of mainstream tech youtubers. Assuming those content creators were also briefed on the product around the same time, a 6 week period should be sufficient to give the youtubers enough time to plan and make review videos to coincide with the announcement. In this case, May 16th seems like reasonable date and aligns with timing floated by Leica Rumors with a date of mid-May to last week of May.

The Leica dealer that I’ve been buying from for years says announcement will be around end of May.

Why do not use any larger screen?

As the M11 which is supposed to be the same sensor as the Q3 slightly compresses its DNG's (proof is that file size increases with ISO as noise is more difficult to compress due to its random nature), I guess it would be highly likely that the Q3 will use the same compression algorithm. They are still going to be large files at around 80-90 MB. That is over 4 times the total size of the HDD on my 1982 Olivetti PC, which at that time, I thought I would never fill!

I'm surprised to see the demand for a flip screen. It's not something I have often felt the need for, except for occasional macro or low level flowers. For everything else I use and prefer the EVF. I had the TL2, and was never entirely comfortable with the reliance on the screen.

Are people relying on the EVF for much of their work where an EVF would normally be adequate, or are you just doing more macro/flowers than me?

FTAOD I am not criticising the demand for a flippy screen - just surprised.

It is a feature I love to see on the SL3 since that one will be used on a tripod. If not, godox now has cheap screens which can be attached so it is not a real dealbreaker.

No, thanks

X100V tilt screen is just impossibly thin and recessed.

Q3 with tilt screen looks like a hunchback

If all this is accurate, that tilt screen is very off-putting to me.  I don't care for the bulk it seems to add and, for me, it serves no useful purpose.  Admittedly, I never use the screen to frame a shot; if I did, I'd probably feel differently...but I don't.  The only thing I wanted from a Q3 was the 60MP sensor and whatever processing software/firmware needed for that.  Oh well, as they say, you can't please everybody! :(  Maybe when the camera is in-hand the added bulk isn't all that noticeable.

I'll wait for some of the inevitable rave reviews on the mis-information net before deciding whether to proceed with a Q2 trade/Q3 purchase... ;)
