has anyone gotten their hands on the handgrip? My Leica Store only had one thumbgrip. Not even a screen protector. I‘m curious what you think about the grip besides the wireless charging. Does it make a noticeable difference to you in how the camera feels?

This camera is very tempting. The price is acceptable for what you get. That sensor gives you practically a zoom lens. With its video capabilities even without Mic In you get amazing and future proof camera. Questioning my purchase of the SL2S few month back. Needed for video work as well as interior photography teh Sl2S was a compromise. But even that 28 lense is just not wide enough for my work I do miss my Q for its form facto. Q3 looks like a homerun and amazing camera. Well done Leica.

The handle of the Q3 feels like the handle of the M11. With both, when it's on, I think: Oh, that's good. When I take it off, I think with both: But that's just as good. I find that it only has a real benefit at higher weights, for example with the M11 when using the Noctilux. The Q3 is so light that you do not really need the handle.

Parcelforce - well more correctly ParcelFARCE 🥵  🥵 🥵. My Q3 loaded on to the van for delivery to me this morning but "something has happened" and the van has gone back to Gatwick, so now no delivery until Tuesday as Monday is a UK national holiday. Deflated!

Hmm. Some strange behaviour with the Fotos app and the Q3 using the remote shooting feature.

Twice now the Fotos app has locked up while showing the sensor image from the camera, and the camera rear screen has shown a randomly moving focus point wandering around the screen and getting larger and smaller.

I think I'll have to upgrade to firmware 1.1. I was excited to see the firmware option in the Leica Fotos app, but depressed to see that it is merely 3 screens telling you to download the firmware to the SD card from a PC, rather than doing the update direct from the Fotos app.

EDIT: firmware update is available direct from the Fotos app! Nice.

Also, the implementation of Leica Looks is odd.

You have the usual film simulations that you'd have on the Q2 etc eg vivid, b&w high contrast etc. But Leica Looks are separate from these in the menu. Why have a separate menu item for essentially the same thing?

But when you select a Leica Look, it is displayed in the quick menu (first menu press with the camera settings on it) in the place where the film simulation setting goes.

So it seems a bit schizophrenic. The "filter" applied to your jpegs is displayed in one place, but changed in two places. Weird.

They should just add the Leica Looks to the list of film simulations and use one menu item. Simples.

EDIT: Just updated to firmware v1.1 direct from the Fotos app. And you'll never guess what....they've updated the Leica Looks menu so the Looks are presented in the same menu as the film simulations. Leica must be psychic. Good work by the team there.

EDIT to the EDIT above. There remain two separate menu items in the main menu, for film styles and Looks, but the shortcut on the quick menu screen gives you access to a list containing both film styles and looks.

To my understanding there are the same settings available as before. Its a question of how you set them: Set the "Tough AF" on "Touch AF" and "Tough AF in EVF" you set to "off". Then to my understanding the problem is solved. At any time you can set the AF field into the middle by tapping onto the screen.

Is that your point?

No - the focus box can be moved by inadvertent handling of the camera and often I set it to centre and when I next raise the camera to my eye, it can have moved. I know I can tap the screen to re-centre it, but I don’t want to have to do that.  I ( and apparently many others) want a menu setting which locks the focus box so that it can’t move…. This is surely not difficult to implement and  so I assume that Leica have a reason not to do so - I just can’t imagine what it is.

I’d hoped the Q3 would offer this.

See this topic which shows what a long-running issue this is (for some of us…).

Leica Looks are implemented in the DNG and not only a JPG function.

There was a knock at the door a few minutes ago and to my astonishment, there was the same smiling driver that has been my Parcelforce deliveryman for over 20 years, handing me a package from Ffordes with my Q3 inside. I said to him that I had been just phoned by Parcelforce, to tell me that his vehicle had been in an accident and had been towed back to the Gatwick depot. They were investigating to see if I could drive up there to collect and would phone me back. The accident was news to my driver. Obviously a cock up at PF HQ.

Have others found the lens cap exceedingly tight? With my arthritic hands it is a real struggle to get it off. I suppose that is better than the self-losing caps some other Leica lenses have had e.g. the lens hood cap on the 35 ASPH Summilux, where a puff of wind can blow it off.

PS PLEASE NOTE: I had to update FW to 1.1 before Fotos would communicate and allow remote operation.

I was wondering ; does the Q2grip fits on the Q3 and has it the same pattern as the Q3?

Thanks in advance,

Klassika.

Yes, I just bought Q2 Grip for Q3 in Leicastore. I like the looks better and don't need Wireless charging.

I have loaded all the LEICA looks and they certainly change the appearance on the LCD but I don't know if that is generated from a DNG thumbnail or the internal JPEG.

Are you sure?  The function is under JPG settings in the menu according to the manual...

Sorry, it only affects JPG. I confused this with the tints of the M11 Monochrome, which are also saved in DNG.

Yep - I've just shot 4 frames with different Looks and the DNGs are all the same. Now...how to get LR to show the Looks when you've imported DNG+JPG and it's showing the DNG... Anyone know?

Yes—a marked difference compared to the Q2. It is very tight but I have to say I much prefer that to what preceded it!

Does anyone know if the e49mm filters have to be slimline or can you fit normal depth ones like a B+W Kasemann circ. polariser? Unfortunately I sold all my 49mm filters along with my 28-35-50 MATE lens, so can't test.
